I'm trying to sort through all the Floyd's that are available. Which ones have the free swinging arm instead of the arm that screws in and gets tight at a certain point?

Those are the snap-in arms, right?
I just picked up a Yamaha Pacifica 921 with a RM ProII that has that type arm.
When I was researching where to find the arm - I saw that the Ibanez Edge Trems also had the same arm.

only the early 80's OFR's have the "screw in" arm , later 80's and all of the current FR's have a "collar" arm and those swing free unless you tighten that collar down . Though the screw in swings free too unless it's at the last thread .

The Edge on my old RG550 was the only Floyd-like trem that had an arm that didn't want to swing around.

All of them after 2 fucking months!!!

The Floyds that only lock at the nut have the pop in arm. I used to have an Ibanez RG350 (or something like that) that had that kind of arm.

all 3 have different arms , The "1984" has the original screw in , which many prefer and btw the arm socket thingie is replaceable on a OFR so you can swap either the collar or screw in part , into the baseplate .

That Gotoh has a push in type with a tension screw
the last FR at MF has the collar type

That 1984 one is priced pretty decent considering it has upgraded fine tuners and a big brass block. I put a big brass block on my San Dimas FR and it's a night and day difference.

Now, that has a screw in arm? Or can you adjust the tension?

The screw in tension is set up like this .. it has an adjustable piece with a washer under the baseplate , you screw the arm all the way in then you turn that piece on the bottom for how much tension you want . I set it very tight and spin back the arm 1 or 2 threads , then with a spin forward it will sit right where you adjusted it to . The collar version works well too , you just need to spin that or adjust it during regular play .

my early 90's Jackson custom has screw in arm.
