Looks like either later this month or early next month, Ill be spending the night in Texas...doing a couple of site evaluation surveys in Austin and San Antonio. Any of you phuckers around that area better hit me up. Ill keep you guys posted on when exactly Ill be there since theres no plan on that yet.

dude franklins bbq in austin. get there early, its amazing.

The whole city of Austin is fucking amazing, in my experience.
If you have a night that you can fuck off and get drunk, wander around 6th street.
If you end up in a place with shitty music, go next door.

Personal recommendation, check out Friends. I think I went there every night I was in Austin.

Hit me the date when you find out.

the music on 6th st is so good. hard to keep leaving bars, all the bands we saw were excellent. no covers, just walk in and see great live music. i tipped all the bands we saw. had a blast.

alas I'm just to far in Houston. But Austin is pretty awesome. Always some good bands on 6th street in my experience. Not the biggest fan of San Antonio but it has its moments I guess.

Word. Sounds good guys. Dave, Ill hit you up, fo sho, when I know more. Boss says this things gotta be done in 6 weeks, so it should be within that time frame...who knows, though...shits always getting pushed back.

you wont get into franklins, so just forget about that now. but do decide what TYPE of food you're looking for in austin. i should be able to help out. and beers should be had.

The only good things about Texas are bbq and Alexis.

I live here and still haven't tried Franklins. It's supposed to be ridiculously good. There is always Rudy's.

also, for the record, 6th street is like cotton candy vodka or something.


you do not want to fucking drink it, at all, have you any dignity, but fun times can certainly be had with it, depending on what you want and how you go about getting it.
we can discuss this all in detail, but basically heres my drinking musicians guide to our little town: all of these areas can be walked around for an entire evening of good times if you knwo what youre getting into

red river = most original music venues. if your friend is in a band, and they play metal, punk, indie, rock, anything really, and have a following and are working their way up through the masses, they are playing at venues on red river. the mohawk, club deville, red 7, etc. these are not hipster bands or clubs, but they have originality and character to spare. drinks are cheap too. fuck, why am i not on red river more often come to think of it?

6th west of 35 = cover bands, and some awesome blues and rock bands, some play original stuff, most dont, but all are good musicians. think professional musicians that play every night but you will never know their name. lots os annoying jersey shore types, and college crowd. tourists. some great street food. austin's bourbon street, basically. have to see it once on a friday or saturday or you cant really say youve been here. compulsory maneuver. most likely to spot a ferrari.

6th farther west of 35 = some isolated gems and quirkyness, 70's style bars, arcade bars, vintage modern furniture, lots of low rectangular couches, et al. not much in the way of music. even antones is moving east.

5th/warehouse district = some awesome food spots. expensive drinks. not much music. but theres music everywhere, so thats not entirely true. probably a solo acoustic dude playing instrumentals.

6th east of 35 =many small stage hispter venues. i view that as a double edged sword. much to be had in the way of some awesome original music and quirky street food, some awesome food trailers. but there will be lots of hands in pockets and shoegazing and colorful short-shorts, handlebar mustaches and big rimmed glasses. if you can wade through that, there are some gems both food and music wise and some really chill, relaxing spots to hang out and have a laugh and a drink. PBR and lone star are always cheap. most likely to spot fixed gear bicycles and pedicabs.

south congress = kind of the same as east 6th, but with more history and texas flair for sure. some cool views. everything merch wise is expensive, but some good deals on food, music and drinks. most likely spot to view immaculately kept classic cars

rainey street: kinda the new kid on the block. houses turned into pretentious tapas and mixologist bars, some food trucks. kind of like one big frat party without the jocks. some foodstuffs, but its still devloping.

the drag (guadalupe by campus): some cool spots here and there, but gnerealyl should be avoided if not a ut student. too far from everything anyway. does have spider house cafe, though, an old house turned coffee house turned bar turned bar with an attached ballroom venue. havent explored this area to much, but spider house is allright.

south austin = someone else has to take this one (brendanO maybe) but hear there are things to do there

north austin = cant walk anywhere, no character yet. best avoided unless you really want to go shopping at tiffanys or something in the domain. or you want to crash in youngblood's spare room.

norther than that = avoid at all costs. im from there, never go there.

Austin is enjoyable for damned sure.

Youngblood pretty much covered everything. Red River used to be my second home but these days I find myself going to the east side more.

Youngblood nailed it. It's been a few years since I was there but I pretty much camped on Red River when I was there. I'm planning to move back to ATX in about two years, after school. Can't fucking wait. That place has been on my mind since I left! I'll definitely be at Fffest this year (I say that every year, but this year it's TRUE!)

And when I get there we should start a forum band. I play bass and drums too....just throwin that out there!

I'll be moving to Austin before the year is out. I was there the weekend before last looking at places/neighborhoods to live along with taking in a few shows, eating good food and drinking too much.

Man, I loved headhunters. That's a bummer.

I lived in Austin for ehhhh, 8 months. It was alright. Went downtown a couple times but I was mostly just working. All. The. Time.

Lots of people love Austin, LOVE it. I remember it being way different (better) when I visited in 2006 vs. living in it in 2012.

I like Austin from what I have seen of it, which to be honest is not a whole hell of a lot. Hopefully I will get a chance to run around and check it out next time I'm close.
