So Z2 is out, and its fucking amazing

giving me a lot of feels that made me a Devy fanboy in the first place. Definitely somd of the best stuff he's put out in a little too. I haven't listened to casualties of cool yet, but I really really disliked epicloud (other than the kingdom redux).
So basically go get Ziltoid 2, you won't be disappointed

I need to grab this soon. I know he's got ZTV going on too, and people say that's pretty damn epic.

I need to get it on CD or Vinyl. I bought it on iTunes for instant gratification.
The iTunes version's mix is pretty overcompressed. Like, more than iTunes usually is. You can actually hear the entire mix duck around some of the sub drops on the Dark Matters songs.
That said, Sky Blue is like a perfect Epicloud Pt2, and Dark Matters is unquestionably better than Z1. The songs are fun, the narrative is funny, and it's all good. I don't think it's his best record, or opus blahblahblah like all the reviews are saying. But I really like it.
I still think my Record of the Year for 2014 is Riff Raff's Neon Icon, though.

I like Sky Blue better based off the first listen-through. Dark Matters felt half-hearted, which is strange considering that Sky Blue was the one he did because of label pressure.

I liked Z2 but it didn't feel as fun or cinematic at the first one which was a let down for me. Honestly just felt kind of like a sequel to epicloud more than to ziltoid.

The epicloud comments are confusing me, because I hated that album

but dat sky blue

The narrative of z1 is funnier and obviously is the classic it is for a reason, but this is definitely a worthy sequel imo. I want to here the dialog free version of dark matter too now, to fully absorb whats going on there musically

Sky blue is better, which is sad cuz i am a huge fan of ZTO. Ztv is funny though

Anneke is in a lot of devin's stuff these days... wonder if they are humping behind the scenes?? Anyways, i'm listening to Z2 right now so i'll see how epic this album is...

So far i'm not liking it that much to be honest, the mix is a mess and buried in reverb/delay even more than usual. Also, I think he's got to change his heavy tone a bit... his chugga chugga stuff is getting a bit redundant. he needs to ditch that Axe fx! i'm just so damn negative today. maybe it will grow on me, as i know he is a genius. i loved "deconstruction", love the Burger content in that one

.

First impression of both discs wasn't good for me but honestly I just was in no mood to listen to anything at that point unless it was Pink Floyd. Seriously. Mind was set and didn't want to hear anything else. After using the new Machine Head to get my head out of that groove I decided now was a good time to come back to Z2. I like Sky Blue a lot. I liked Epicloud a bit too. Yeah it was pretty poppy in a lot of places but I dug it. Sky Blue feels darker to me than Epicloud though. Honestly a few of the starting tracks feel like they could have come from Accelerated Evolution. No complaints. Universal Flame, Sky Blue, Fallout and Before We Die are personal favorites.
Dark Matters is a cool album and good sequel to Ziltoid but it feels light on actual Ziltoid content. When he's there and active it's great. When he's not, he's missed. The story is cheesy and funny and I dig the narrative. I don't think it's as good as ZTO though. That being said it is good in its own right.

Bumping this because I saw DTP and Animals as Leaders and it fucking ruled. Dev is hilarious live. Very self deprecating. Played four songs off the Z2 side alone. Played a few from Sky Blue, got some Infinity action (War and Bad Devil) and Regulator from Ocean Machine. If this tour comes to your town go see it immediately.
