I figured I'd start this thread for fun, so everyone can share their reviews/opinions/experiences with WGS speakers. I'm currently running a Veteran 30 and an ET65 in my 2x12. I've had this speaker combo for a few years now, and I really like it. Please share your thoughts?

WGS BL80. Great speaker. Sounds like a CL80 / Mesa MC90, but smoother on top & a bit bigger in the "balls" section. Highly reccomend.

Have never heard a WGS Speaker that I didnt like. No complaints.

Not to mention, that they're made right here in good ol Paducah Ky. Support my town's economy! Buy WGS

What's everyone's opinion on the ET-65's? I've been thinking about swapping out the Greenbacks in my Mojo 4x12 for some of these bad boys.

I dont mesh well with the ET-65's, but I'm in the minority. I expected them (probably unjustifiably) to sound somewhat similar to my G12-65's, but they are a completely different animal. They have a much higher mid spike than the G12-65 that doesn't mesh well with my amps. Completely different speaker.

I've only one and it's fantastic , based on that if I ever need another GTR speaker I will shop there first . This speaker took a couple days to break in though and you could sit and hear it get better and better .

I'm curious about the Invader 50. WGS has recommended this pair to match well with my DSL50.

I don't have the experience with the CL80 or MC90, but the BL-80 is my favorite speaker ever. I struggled to find the right driver for two of my Laneys and when I gave these speakers a go I got a little emotional and from time to time I still sigh in relief that my ears can actually focus on what's being played rather than nuances of tone that I'm not liking.

I can vouch for the HM75 and the Veteran 30. Both fantastic speakers.

I have the same combo in one of my port city cabs and have also used Reaper 50s. Just awesome all around. And the guys there are super quick and friendly to help you choose the right combo for you.

What do you suggest for a 1x12 closed back cabinet ? I'll be using it with a Peavey Classic 30 combo (Blue Marvel speaker) wired in parallel; distortion pedal on the clean channel - style is thrash/hardcore.
BL 80, Veteran 30, other ?

How would you describe the ET65 for high gain / metal applications?

Looking for a little advice from experienced users:

I'm growing weary of my Tonkerlites. Overall they are nice speakers but there's this harsh high end shit going on that can't be dialed out (I run the highs on my map at 0 and have even put a layer of 3/4" thick high density foam between the speakers and the grill).

Due to power handling I'm currently considering, more or less in order:

1. Veteran 30
2. Reaper HP
3. Invader 50
And then I don't know about the Lead 80, ET65, HM75, Liberator

This would go in a whitebox 2x12, and I play sludge/doom/stoner/thrashy sort of stuff. Looking for something sort of dark I guess. Maybe an emphasis on the low mids.

Basically I don't want a harsh high end. The speakers don't necessarily have to have a huge low end (other cab has Emi Deltalites) but they do have to be able to handle lots of lows, if that makes sense.

Advice?

My first suggestion would be to try out the vet 30. However, I think you'd like the ET-65 based on what people here say about it.

Yeah, people seem to love the ET65, but the WGS description of "tight midrange and sparkling highs" doesn't sound enticing to me.

+1. I have this pattern in a 1960A. V30's for me though.

I have used the ET65's on their own also and thought they were great.

That is an accurate description. I don't like the highs on them compared to my G12-65's

I use a classic 50 with my 4x12 that has vet30s and v30s out if a mesa in x pattern. They sound pretty dang similar butthe vet30s are a little darker. Sounnds really good. However the cab is even better with my superlead clone.
