Seems like I have a new band coming together. New kid is pretty well plugged in and has a lot of good set material that he knows works in the clubs we're targeting. It's the new flavor of southern-rock style country, but as you may know there's plenty of funky and R&R licks and grooves in the new stuff.
What I'd like is your suggestions on extra stuff that bridges the gaps between Tom Petty/Mellencamp type 'Americana' music and what passes for today's country stuff. I'm probably forgetting some OLD country classics that are real honky-tonkin' fun, and that's what I'm looking for.
Gotta get them dancing and buying beer. What's your favorites ?
