So who's all going to miss The Mars Volta?

Just saw via Sargent House that TMV broke up. I guess Cedric went crazy on twitter.
I only recently really got into TMV but I really dug their sound (save for their most recent album, which I though was super boring).
Deloused was a great album but my favorite by far was Bedlam in Goliath :flamesuit: I just picked up that record on vinyl a couple months ago and it KILLS.
I also wonder how this will affect ATDI?
Thoughts?

Honestly, I feel TMV had run its course. I like a lot of it, but it didn't seem like it was really going anywhere new anymore.

TMV=Rush+Santana+Sonic Youth+Meth+Hipster
Deloused was irreplicable genius.
Frances was really good.
Amputechture was a shockingly masturbatory abortion.
Bedlam was too little, too late.
Octahedron was awesome by any other band's standard, but not for TMV.
In short, they were a lot like Dream Theater. The best band to only engage a listener occasionally.
ATDI's Relationship of Command>any MV record.
In before Youngblood.

That's kind of the way I feel too.
Noctourniquet SUCKED, IMO. There was almost no energy in it and you could kind of tell that they were starting to wind down, musically.
But I'm always a little sad when bands that have hit the decade mark call it quits, especially if they write music I like.
Also, They formed in 2001 and I remember somebody telling me about this "cool new band" around the time they formed.
God I feel old....

Pretty much how I feel if you reverse the two bolded ones. The freaking noise on Frances was exceedingly masturbatory. The songs were great, but the album could have almost been an EP.

L'Via L'Viaquez might be my favorite song they've ever done....so Frances gets points for that.

I feel like I'm the only person on earth who liked Bedlam.
Maybe it was just Thomas Pridgen? He seemed to inject a lot more energy into the band and keep the record going.
And there was more song content on Bedlam and less wankery.

Agreed. That song fucking rules ass.
And as far as sleewell's comment. I've seen 'em twice. Wanted to off myself in the bathroom the first time. The second time, they were amazing.

maybe if i knew what i was getting into beforehand and they were headlining it would have been different.
but watching them setup all that crazy sweet gear and then do what they did when i had no idea what to expect was just godawful. plus opening they did not get the full sound/light setup needed for such a show.

At this point, I had stopped caring. I loved Deloused though.
Saw them in 05 at Bonaroo. I think it was an unreal show, but I was tripping pretty hard

Yeah, that would have been for the the Frances tour. I think they only played like two or three actual songs. The rest of the time, it was just noizy improv that wasn't particularly inspired.

TMV can lick ATDI's balls, as mentioned already. They were one of the greatest things evar. Definition of good post-hardcore

Won't miss them. Love Deloused though.
Nocturniquet I though was ok and I can see why people hate it. Either way it was just another reminder that everything after deloused just paled in comparison.
Funny seeing TMW break up threads around various forums. Haters Gonna Hate.

all of this, with some stipulations
amputechture was mostly awesome and tmv cannot be compared to ATDI. just too different. i liked RoC and deloused equally.
they will be missed, but it was probably time.
