I listen to L.A.'s jazz station 88.3 KJZZ, pretty much every day on my drive in to work. There's always at least one tune that I end up looking up and trying to make part of my permanent library. So I'm gonna annoy you guys by posting a new jazz tune from my morning commutes every day, well... almost every day.

That's funny, San Diego's jazz station is 88.3 as well. I'll have to remember to tune back in once I get thru the static of Orange County.

Nice selection for today, btw.

Relevant to my interests. I just started listening to "jazz after hours" on my local PBS station. It's a new world. I want to be in it.

Excuse me, sir, but this wasn't a "Post your favorite jazz tunes" thread. This is a Mike's Daily Jazz Picks. Unless your name is Mike, please refrain from hijacking my thread.

Don't distract from the compliments I'm fishing for regarding my taste in jazz tunes, man.

Been meaning for a while to start a jazz thread here, glad you took the initiative. Never heard the track in the OP before, cool tune.
I love jazz of all types, the local jazz station is the only radio station I can really tolerate.
My name's not Mike, but here's some more unconventional jazz. I absolutely love when Davis and Hancock started getting really weird with shit in the late 60's/early 70's

And when it comes to modern stuff, I've really been digging Tigran Hamasyan

This trio Phronesis is really badass too

And this dude is local, and really awesome. I can't help but think of tool when I hear this song's bass line

i owe you guys a few clips. Last Friday and this morning the jazz station played Tito Puente, the king of Latin Jazz. Both of these tunes rock.

Tito Puente makes me want to kick a puppy.
Goerge Benson clip was great though.

Why don't you like those Puente tunes? Just curious. There's several of his jams that I really don't like, but those two are pretty dope.
But yeah, Benson is the shit. Check out the Dave Brubek and Art Blakey. Those two videos I posted are FU-KING DOPE

Having a Cuban wife I've listened to a lot of Afro-Cuban Latin Jazz over the past few years. Puente is the king. Period.

This is probably a stretch since I have so little info, but a couple months ago I heard a really awesome track by a Cuban jazz pianist, it was an Ellington tune he was playing and he was going nuts on it, much shred, crazy rhythmic work, etc. I think he may have been at least slightly more contemporary. I immediately forgot his name tho. Ring any bells?

Hong Kong Mambo was pretty killer. Tokyo Blues starts off lame, and gets meandering in the middle, though now that I've listened to it for a second time I can appreciate it a bit more.
