Yamaha THR question

Since the THR has been a topic of discussion, I have a question.

I got my THR5 earlier this week and it's a GREAT sounding amp! Killer effects and overdrive and great tone for such a little amp.

My question is: Is it normal for the amp's speakers to break up after hitting the 3 o clock part of the volume knob? When I turn up the volume, (and with my "master" at half), it gets this weird breakup sound that I don't like. So I have to turn down the "master" in order for it to sound better at low volumes. Kind of sucks that I can't have them both high up, in order to get max volume when needed.

At first I scared myself because I hooked up to my ipod into the amp on full blast (accident) and thought I did damage to the speakers. L-)

I have the THR10, not the 5, but I run the master dimed or nearly dimed for all of the amp models - they all just sound much better that way. You should be able to crank the master and just use the volume control to control the overall output.

The cab itself will rattle if you crank the volume too high on my THR10 - but theres really no point in playing it that loudly, so I don't.

That may be what you are talking about - cab rattle, not speaker breakup.
