47 Ronin- 3/10 This might be a gift. I cannot accurately describe how awful this movie is. It has nothing going for it. The plot is basic, ok, I can handle that, but the actual writing is awful. The direction is awful. Any director worth his salt could have turned this into at least a fun bad samurai action movie. It isn't even that. The acting, well, Keanu Reeves is the strong point, nuff said? Nuff said.

The CGI seriously looks like its from a 2001 video game. The Matrix had better CGI, it came out in 1999. This would be ok IF there were a few important scenes featuring a character that looks like he's from a 2001 video game. So awful. Seriously, SyFy channel awful.

I'd love to say there were attributes that made this movie fun bad, but it didn't even have those. It just sucks in every aspect of sucking.

Its like Michael Bay directed 7 Samurai but had a $100 effects budget so he didn't know what to do and stopped showing up after the first week of filming allowing his grad student aide to finish directing the movie from a script written by a heroin addicted male escort.

Horrible is being kind.

Machete Kills - A hilarious 8/10 for enjoyment level. Going even campier and weirder than the first Machete, this movie doesn't really make all that much sense. But its not really supposed to. The plot is hilarious and mostly exists as a vehicle for Danny Trejo badassery and putting hot women in tiny outfits.

An homage to awful 70s B-action movies, you'll sit back and be entertained while shit blows up, bullets are shot, armored cars are smashed into stuff and hot women wear little clothing. Star Wars is mentioned a few times as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the camp.

I typically like most Seth McFarland stuff, at least in measured doses, so I figure I'll enjoy the stupidity of that one. I laugh every time I see the previews.

Yeah, he's hit or miss for me. Loved the first few seasons of Family Guy, and then meh. Amer. Dad, and the Cleveland Show, not so much. However Ted killed it, fucking love that movie, so I was willing to go see this one at the theater. I'm glad I did. It was a family thing, me, the kid, and my folks. We all laughed like hell, and my mom is not a Seth MacFarlane fan at all.

Well, ok, I should say I enjoy some of his stuff and that which I do, I really like. The cleveland show is awful and Family Guy has slummed to that point of moments of funny but not worth watching most of the time.

I loved Ted and this looked in a similar vein of stupidity. lol

Million ways was good but not great. It was more if a romantic comedy than I was expecting.

Somehow Amy and I managed to sit all the way through 47 Ronin. Pretty impressive. You know what else had terrible dialogue and just overall kind of sucked? The Man With the Iron Firsts. I guess its to be expected with RZA and all. But man, not good.

If I wrote, produced, directed, and starred in a movie, and the female lead was Charlize Theron, you can bet your ass I'd be writing in as many opportunities to suck face and get nekkid with her as the contract permitted.

Im sure it was a blast for him, not so much for the viewer though.

One of the greatest movies ever made. Fact.

Caught up with a few recent-ish films on a couple of long-haul flights, I probably wouldn't have chosen some of them but it's all about making the journey time go a little quicker.

On the outbound flight:

We are the millers

7/10 some pretty good funny moments, I enjoyed it quite a lot, j.anniston still looking hot, without the cliched end would have scored it higher.

Monuments men

6/10 I know it isn't a comedy but the trailer made it look quite funny, unfortunately all the comedy moments were in the trailer. George clooney played George clooney, k.blanchette didn't convince me, some big names but pretty unforgettable IMO

Rush

6/10 as a keen F1 fan, I've seen documentaries on the Hunt/Lauder battle, it wasn't as bad as I expected but was never going to match the real life drama, the 2 lead guys did ok though.

Last Vegas

:crap:

Seen while away (gf's choice):

True grit

5/10 saw the original john Wayne TG, so this was never going to compete in my eyes, it was ok but I really struggled to understand Kurtz Russell's mumbling.

Gravity

4/10 George clooney played George clooney. Bored, bored, bored.

The homeward journey (was a night flight, only watched 2 films):

The secret life of Walter Mitty

7/10 Having seen the original Danny Kaye film, and the trailer for this version, I wasn't expecting much. However, it only really had 2 things in common with the original; the title, and the idea of a daydreamer. I enjoyed this film, glad I watched it.

Anchorman 2

5/10 some funny moments but, as funny as w.ferrel obviously can be, his films never seem to live up to my expectations, I found this pretty meh.

Showpiercer - 8.5/10. This movie was really fucking good, I don't know how I hadn't heard of it before. I would have given it a 10, but I thought the ultimate ending was a bit weak. I highly recommend it though

RoboCop re-make= :crap: :-q Too much back story, and CGI for my tastes and the movie was just awful.

I'm sure someone out there is planning a They Live re-make.

been a kind of movie-filled few weeks for me

finally saw the 2 hobbit films (disgraceful, as a long time tolkein fan but if you cant tell, i dont get around to movies very quickly)
before seeing them, i scoffed at the idea of making it a 3-parter. it makes sense now, though they could have tidied things up a bit here and there for length instead of making each installment a full-on LotR affair. one tradition i was glad to see continued was the uncanny ability to make everything look exactly how i pictured it when reading tolkein's books. i cant remember right now which had the smigol scene in it, but that underground lake was EXACTLY as i had pictured it when i was in 8th grade.
individually:
unexpected journey: 6/10 once it got going it was cool. more backstory than i remember being thrown at you in the book. a weeeeeeeeeee bit childish and cartoony at parts, but i was conflicted as to whether that was appropriate and/or deliberate. overall pretty good. trolls could have been a bit more gruesome looking, but admittedly they were a bit....animated...in the book.
desolation of smaug:8/10 fucking badass. some really creative "choreography" in the fight scenes ending in some pretty gnarly kills. everything else was amped up from the first one. good show.

others:
Maleficent: 6/10 entertaining retelling of sleeping beauty, some nice visuals, but overall forgettable and not up to the massive hype in my opinion.

Secret Life of Walter Mitty: 7/10 enjoyed it. i thought her face in the birds was a bit cheesy, but everything else was cool.

zero dark thirty 6/10 interesting view at the intel side, however accurate. at first i thought it was dragging a bit, only to realize that it was setting up the frustration and sense of time spent. really just wanted to watch the op scene though at the end of the day.

some piece of shit from 8 years ago called see no evil: gf landed on this one the other night. lol. i love horror, i even love SOME campy cheese horror. but this was inexcusable. its pretty safe to say that if it involves a group of people stuck in a situation, im predisposed to hate it. piece of shit until proven innocent. this was not even close.

the internship 4/10: looked like they were trying to find an excuse to get the wedding crashers crew back together. some tired computer jokes. meh. would cosplay chick. def would rose byrne.

Was this the fuck-awful WWE movie with Kane as the main baddie? That movie was dumber than a box of rocks and twice and useless.

OK. I watched the Vengeance trilogy on Netflix a couple weeks ago.

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance - First time seeing it: 8/10

Oldboy - Seen it probably 15 times now. Still one of my favorite movies: 9.5/10

Lady Vengeance: Second time seeing it: 7/10

Oldboy (2013) - Now on Netflix: 6/10

I wanted the remake to suck so bad. I despise Josh Brolin. It wasn't terrible though. Lots of homages to the original (hammer fight scene, fairy wings, etc). Odd story changes, but it wasn't bad. As a stand alone film, without the beauty of the original weighing down on it, It's a solid film. I hate saying that.

Jacob 4/10 - Some sling blade motherfucker goes kerouac on a town full of rednecks. I knew it would be bad, but I was hoping for it to be bad in the funny way. Nope. It was a turd.

Buried Alive 1/10 - Quit about half way through. Super slow, not scary whatsoever and horribly acted. Horror movie writers also need to realize that the viewer needs to want the cast to either survive or die. I felt nothing and was therefore uninterested in seeing the movie to completion.

Forget Me Not 1/10 - Same story as above only the movie was riddled with obnoxiously loud terrible music.

Man, I haven't seen anything good for a while. Nothing in the theaters interests me and the horror movies on Netflix are shitty.

Rampage, I actually kinda dug Buried Alive, at least if it's the same movie I'm remembering. Only one actor in the whole movie that's actually visible, right? It had a decent twist at the end, considering what it was.

Oops, went looking, nope. I was thinking of Buried. Considering the ENTIRE movie relied on one actor being able to pull off the entire thing, other than voices on the phone, it was pretty fucking stellar.

Yeah, Buried, not so bad. Buried Alive? I'd rather go sort my socks in order of length and foot hole circumference.
