Gah, reminds me I still haven't gotten around to watching the first one. I need to rectify that.

An otherwise enjoyable action movie ruined by far too much shitty attempt at plot. Holy cow is it bad.

I mean, the movie is basically a ripoff of the Die Hard franchise only with far worse writing and bad modern CGI.

Good points- The action and one liners early on. Some fun cheesy shoot em up with good quips. However, that's all done with in the first half of the movie.

The bad- Almost everything else. From the non-sense logic (hey, lets use conventional missiles to blow up a command station hardened to withstand nuclear strikes!) to the complete disregard for what weapons systems do (did you know ICBMs can be used as SAMs? Neither did I!) it gets painful as it lurches on. (Its 131 minutes. There's 90 minutes worth of plot here tops, but this is par for the course with "action" movies anymore.)

Everyone in the US command structure is an idiot, every highly trained Marine/Secret Service Agent/Soldier is taken out by the bad guys who somehow never miss except when shooting at the main protagonists.

I....the movie is a giant pile of fail. It borders are being a decent brainless action movie but keeps getting bogged down in terribly written plot. If it had been 90-100 minutes and cut out all the extraneous attempts to build suspense or develop the plot, it would be MUCH better.

Also, I'm amazed at how bad the CGI is for a "blockbuster" budget film. I mean, its not SYFY channel bad, but its not very good IMO.

I don't feel ripped off by the $1.20 we spent to rent it from Red Box, but neither would I suggest anyone spend $1.20 to watch it unless they are way more forgiving of facepalming stupidity and "holy crap is this going to actually go somewhere soon?" than I am.

Either of the GI Joe films ranks far above this is my book.

Youngblood might enjoy it for getting a laugh out of how things work in WHD world though.

nope. not getting near that one. well......maybe ;)

Its too long to truly be fun bad, but it does have its moments. I didn't even delve into the awful backplot of how everything is being orchestrated by the military-industrial complex. Even as someone who believes merchants of death carry far too much weight in Washington, WHD takes it to entirely new level of stupid.

I have heard that it is dumber than Olympus Has Fallen which is a pretty major accomplishment.

I'll have to watch OhF to compare now. I've been avoiding it because it looked awful. But honestly, I think it has to be better than this.

I now know White House Down was directed by the "great" Roland Emmerich who brought us such wonders as "Independence Day," "2012," "The Day After Tomorrow," and "10,000 BC."

When your track record makes Michael Bay look talented you might want to jump off a tall building.

Right into the huge pile of money all of your movies earn. Sad, but true.

Yup.

White House Down lost its ass in the theaters though. $150 mil budget + promotion only made $75 mil domestically and I doubt it did well overseas.

No worries though, Hollywood will pass over 10 or 12 interesting 25-50 million dollar movies to shoot for the moon with a tired cliche filled "blockbuster" every time. Ah well.

Gravity ... loved it , 9.5 / 10 it was visually stunning , shocking and yet personal . To put a woman in the lead role for all of mankind's achievements & failures was brave .

Devil inside 7.5/10 not too shabby. The creepy look on the mothers face in the institution was cool.

Stupid and weak.

Seems like Steve Carrel, Steve Buscemi and Jim Carrey lost it and now all they can do is terrbile comedy movies.

Shit weather here in Norfolk, turned into a movie fest. Saw Sabotage, which was pretty good. Not so much an action flick but more of a thriller / whodunnit. Had some gory stuff going on but overall I would give it a 6.5, maybe a 7/10.

Also saw Bad Words which was surprisingly good. I am a fan of Jason Bateman and he directed this one too. It drags a little like most movies tend to do in the middle, but it had a few good laughs. It may depend on what kind of mood you are in when you see it, but I thought it was original and well done. 7/10...

Frozen 11/10

I grew up on Disney movies and this one gave me a huge heart boner. Then I got a full on rager when I found out Kristen Bell was the voice of Anna.

You want to hate Leo's character, but I just cant. I don't know if I would have done things any differently if I was in position. It's probably a good thing I'll never have anywhere close to that level of wealth.

I started watching that last night. I will be watching it in installments as I sure as hell am not watching it when kids are around

I am about an hour in and I have to say; it is definitely something else  I love Scorsece(sp?) and DiCaprio does an excellent job as per usual. I am very interested to see what happens in my next viewing haha

It's absolutely absurd, and I think that's why I found it so fascinating. I wish I was doing mountains of blow with supermodels on my 170 ft yacht

Last night's installment=quaalude fight. Probably one of the funniest things I have ever seen

I was literally in tears watching him try to get into that Countach the first time I watched it.

EDIT:

I was watching it while my wife was asleep and it was all I could do to not hyperventilate with laughter. Sh*t was HYSTERICAL

Divergent... 7/10.... not a bad action type flick, I didn't read the books but it pretty much follows the formula for these kind of movies... in the end I left wanting to the see the follow up so I guess that's a good thing...
