Gave it up years ago....got into it, never had the time really, now I'm some kind of whatever safety raze P grabs me when she hits the store. I'll hit the Art of Shaving kiosk if I have time at the mall just to grab some soap/cream or whatever, just because it feels better. I use really good beard oil and balm just because it's dry as fuck here and the shit starts to feel like sticks in the winter if I don't.

The mess I got going on right now:

LOL. Literally takes me less than 5 minutes a day.

I'm one of the few in my family that wasn't bald by 50, but damn if my chest, stomach and back hair didn't turn white before I was 40. I shave it because no one wants to see AARP Sasquatch.

Israel Personnas's are really nice blades.
Sputnik, Iridium and Astras are good too.
Merkur makes great razors but, their blades seem to be really harsh.

The Occam's singe edge injector arrived yesterday.
Used it with the medium gap head, that came installed, and I was surprised to find that it's not as dangerous to use as a double edge.
I was able to shave faster with the Occam than any of my DE's.
I was using a Feather Pro Guard blade, with the safety nubs along the edge so, maybe that had something to do with it?

The Merkur Future clone is scheduled to arrive on Monday.

sweet!

yeah-- i used israeli personna's too! i actually just switched back to feathers, 'cause i SWEAR my bear got thicker in the past coupla year, and i was getting shredded.

ah man, i don't mind having some stubble, but i feel like a schlub when i carry that too long. i gotta say though, i find its a hella lot easier shaving every second or third day with a good DE than it is using shitty plastic razors. good and close seems to last way longer and my skin's way happier too not using bloo goo or bad shaving cream.

:idk: i don't even think of it as a hobby-- just as cuttin' out the bullshit.

Awesome!!! I just love the artist club format. Did you get the occam’s Oren ??

Btw, I shaved with the supply injector today. Great razor. They have the “blems” for $50.

Got the regular Ocam's with the solid handle. I don't think I'd like the cut out handle on the Oren... looks like it's easy to lose your grip so, I got the regular Ocam's handle.

Merkur Future clone arrived today... it's heavy and solidly built. the blade cover snaps on and off with a nice, crisp click.... looks legit.
Will put the thumb screws on it tomorrow morning with an Astra blade and report back.

If I don't have much time, I use a Mach 3. Otherwise I got a Merkur. I prefer the Merkur because I'm less likely to have any sort of razor burn. Also, it's much easier to keep clean.

oh boy.. that's opening a can o' worms...

haha.. i'm a big fan of taylor of bond street shave soap, 'cause a cake'll last freaking at LEAST a year for whatever.. 12 bucks? the tubs of cream are awesome too, but man will they leave some serious residue in your sink  lotsa flavors for both, i stick with sandalwood just cause.. yeah, boring, classic, and kinda just simple. doesn't make me smell all froofy.

and depending on yer razor and how inclined you are to tug on it would kinda guide that. but one of the best all purpose ones is definitely the israeli personnas.. not too sharp, not too dull. seem to take care of most folks real well!

though i do a lot less damage to myself with feathers nowadays 'cause sumbitches are SHARP... i use a 34c though, which isn't super aggro blade angle. ymmv with the futur-- just start with the angle tuned down, and it's hard to go wrong with either!

I recently got back up to speed with current soaps. There are some truly stellar choices out there right now. I don’t want to overwhelm you, but here we go.

These are the new style of artisan soaps. They are all using a similar soft base with Kokum butter.

Declaration grooming - very best soaps ever!
Wholly kaw - also best ever, but burned me
Barrister and Mann - awesome, but burned me
Shannon’s soaps - cheaper, but great!!!
Stirling - cheap, similar to above. Kind of burned me
Chiseled face - awesome, similar to above.

Blades:
Gillette yellow 7 o’clock
Gillette Black Russian 7 o’clock
Gillette Platinum
Gillette silver blue
Israeli red Personna
Lord platinum class

it's a merkur futur copy-- which apparently merkur never re-upped their patent for, and its 12 BUCKS. i'm partially horrified, and partially wanting to buy one. always thought that was a lurvely razor, but never wanted to spend 80 bucks on one.

ANY CASE.. it's a great way outa the plastic non-fantastics for you dudes still buying gillette poop.

The clone of the Merkur Future is legit.
Got a fantastic shave, last night, on setting #3.
I can confidently report that it is the safest DE razor I ever used... no nics or razor burn.
The settings 1 to 6, (1 being the least agro and 6 being the most agro) don't click in place like a Gillette Fat Boy or Slim. Instead, the handle smoothly turns without clicks so, you can dial in 3 1/3 or 5 5/8... if you so desired.
I used Astra Platinum blades (one of my favorite DE blades): https://www.amazon.com/Astra-Platinum-D ... lades&th=1
...and Nancy Boy pepperment shave cream: https://www.nancyboy.com/signature-shave-cream/
...and Atomic Age Bay Rum Aftershave: is doesn't smell like Bay Rum at all. Instead, is smells like turpentine and burns like a motherfucker! LOVE IT!!! https://phoenixartisanaccoutrements.com ... arrel-aged

oh man-- i'd never seen razorock. are the synthetic brushes REALLY that good? i've never used one-- i've only used a horrible boar brush which truly was amazingly bad, and the unbelievably nice gift that my mom's gave me of a hand made badger, which i'm hoping i keep until i die

Dan,

Rr is legit. It’s the brainchild/house brand of joe, the owner of Italianbarber.com. He is Italian and has legit companies make all of his razorock stuff. Example = the figaro/p160 co makes his soaps and aftershaves.

His milled razors are the very best.

His brushes are the very best I’ve ever used. The prices are insane. They solve every brush issue I’ve ever had.
