'Kay, see, now, I really dig that riff, and these guys can not only play AND sing (!!!), but their production is top notch ... and perhaps most critically, they are obviously INTENDING to be silly as shit. I LOVE that!

In all measurable ways, they are the diametric opposite of Skidmark. So I guess I agree that the two bands should book some gigs together, if for no other reason than that WP would completely blow the 'marks off any stage and hopefully humiliate them in front of their girl/boyfriends.

Just watched the whole video (last time, I quit 20 seconds into the vocals). I was active in the original epic Skidmark thread on HCAF. Hell, I was the one who went and trolled TGP with their stuff. I am something of a Trademark connoisseur. And I just now came to a conclusion.

It is ALL the singer. 100%. It's on him.

Everything else in Trademark is at best decent, and at worst mediocre. The drummer is fine. The guitarist is actually decent, and pulls off a wide variety of covers. The bassist is a dorky asshat with small man's disease, but that's personality; musically, he sounds OK. All told, they're just your local bar band.

Except for the singer.

He is really the worst fucking frontman I have ever heard in a band that was trying to take themselves seriously. ONE: He can't sing - not even hold a tune, let alone carry a country ballad, as he has tried to do. TWO: He can't rap. Zero flow. Embarrassingly bad flow, like "this is the first time I've seen these words and heard this music" bad. THREE: Assuming he writes the lyrics, he is thrice guilty, because they are bad even by the ankle-high standards of modern country and hip-hop. "Livin' it up with a dixie cup?" REALLY? You took a lyrical hook by Toby Keith, the worst songwriter in the world, and just changed the brand of cup? Jesus fucking hell you are a paint chip eating retard.

And the crazy thing is, he's the only reason we're talking about these chumps. The gym-rat-in-a-cowboy-hat look has all the dumbass northern Mississippi bar chicks standing in little puddles, which is the only reason the other three relatively competent musicians are playing to crowds at all right now.

People be dumb. And most chicks listen with their eyes.
