There was no shark to jump, merely hobbits in barrels.

Not just a love interest, but an honest-to-god interspecies love
triangle, comprising two characters not found in the book and one who barely had a speaking part in the book. Just completely shoehorned in.

Funnier than the original in some places, but not nearly as quotable. It could have been a much better movie if the story lines tied together a bit more and if it was a half hour shorter.
Especially if it was a half hour shorter
did you LOVE the first one or just sort of dig it? this is the first review ive heard, trying to find where you're coming from.
i rated it a 6/10 above as well.
funny but not as funny as the first one, imho, and the story line sort of sucks. it is more about "hey, you funny guys show up and be funny and we'll just film it" than actually putting together a funny story. steve correl wasn't funny at all in it.

That's pretty much standard for him anymore isn't it?

Truf. The last thing he was good in was the 40 Year Old Virgin IMO (have not seen Anchorman 2)

Sinister - 8/10: This is probably one of the better "scary" movies I've seen in a while. Lot of Ethan Hawke screen time, so if you have a bromance carrying over from the 90s with him this is your flick. Pretty well done. But I like "jumpy" shit when it's late and I've had some drinks and the surround sound is cranked. Will watch again.

I want to see Lone Survivor, but damn, modern war movies based on actual events, that actually follow those events fairly closely do a number on me.
My dad and I might go see it together though.

I'm sure. Especially because I have pretty damn strong feelings about the war it occurred during. Probably how my dad felt watching Vietnam movies.
I know they took some liberties with what actually happened, but from what I've read, for a hollywood film, its fairly accurate.

The Wold of Wallstreet - 10/10
This movie was great. Telephant was quite right with the description of debaucherous... to say the least

One Missed Call: -5/10
Wow, its really hard to describe how terrible this movie is. Not only is it not scary, its not funny, or anything except boring. The acting is amazing bad, even for a low budget horror movie.
However, the writing makes the acting look amazing. Seriously, there is no character development, there is nothing that makes you give a shit about what is going on.
Basically, there is nothing enjoyable about the film in the slightest. Avoid it like the plague because its not even good to watch for cheesy horror value as it has none.

La vida prescoz y breve de Sabina Rivas 8/10
" The early and brief life of Sabina Rivas"
The story of a teenage Guatemalan prostitute with dreams of making it to the US and becoming famous singer. Along the way she must deal with things like machete wielding gangs and surprise butt sex from immigration officer. Very gritty. It is in Spanish so you Gringos will have to get the subtitled version.

lone survivor. not the new Saving Private Ryan. it's more like the new Black Hawk Down. more comparable, imo. well done.

We're the Millers- 3/10 I don't really know where to begin. The movie is trainwreck. It can't seem to decide to be a black comedy, a comedy comedy, a syrupy comedy or what. Mostly, its terrible and unfunny.
Now, that isn't to say there aren't some funny moments. The problem is they're all quick "HAH" funny moments and they're over in a second and then there's ten to fifteen more minutes of terrible before the next moment.
The movie's an hour and fifty minutes, but it feels much, MUCH longer. All in all its pretty terrible and unless you feel like wasting an hour and fifty minutes of your life, or your taste in comedies is completely different than mine which is fair.
Just not my thing at all.
Honestly, the outtakes at the end, just skip to those, funnier than the whole movie combined.

Desolation of Smaug 8/10
Pretty schweet film. I felt the editing at the start of the film was rushed to get them to the mountain, and the Tauriel stuff was a bit crap. I think they could have done a lot more without her being involved so much. They could have made her less human-like as well...

Don Jon - maybe 4/10
Hot bisches and Joseph Gordon-Levitt essentially playing The Snitchuation, which was mildly amusing for about five minutes, with Tony Danza playing the Snitchuation's Dad which was a little more amusing for about three minutes, then annoying as balls. I'm not exactly sure what the meaning was they were trying to convey, but it basically came across as, "bisches be bisches, porn is bad except when it's not, sex can really suck except when it doesn't, and life will beat down dudes stuck on themselves and women that seem like they might be alright but hot bitches that think they're all that get to skate through unfazed."
I wouldn't call it a steaming pile of shit, just very muddled. Even without being muddled all you really have to do is look around you to see the same shit happening. Dude gets stuck on a chick, she utterly dismantles every part of his life that matters to him, she finds some excuse to end it anyway, all while telling him she never asked for anything and arguing that the thing he claimed all guys do is something no other guy does but yet makes him just like every other guy. . . gah. See? Muddled. Still, the basic premise is pretty played out both in life and in movies.
I did find the movie titles when they went to the theater sorta entertaining. Channing Tatum appearance where he made fun of literally every lovey-dovey bullshit movie he's been involved in was pretty rad. Dad trying to cop a feel off his son's hot piece o' ass was sorta creepy funny, and the rest of it was just there.
Many Tori Black flash appearances.

I'd have rather watched one of her movies.

The book is all kinds of disturbing. It was a book that I didn't want to finish yet couldn't stop reading.
Bad Grandpa 7/10? Hard to judge as I normally don't like Johnny Knoxville in movies or Jackass, for that matter. That being said I hyperventilated from laughter in more than a few spots. Funny if you dig Jackass/Sacha Baron Cohen type humor.

White House Down- 4/10
An otherwise enjoyable action movie ruined by far too much shitty attempt at plot. Holy cow is it bad.
I mean, the movie is basically a ripoff of the Die Hard franchise only with far worse writing and bad modern CGI.
Good points- The action and one liners early on. Some fun cheesy shoot em up with good quips. However, that's all done with in the first half of the movie.
The bad- Almost everything else. From the non-sense logic (hey, lets use conventional missiles to blow up a command station hardened to withstand nuclear strikes!) to the complete disregard for what weapons systems do (did you know ICBMs can be used as SAMs? Neither did I!) it gets painful as it lurches on. (Its 131 minutes. There's 90 minutes worth of plot here tops, but this is par for the course with "action" movies anymore.)
Everyone in the US command structure is an idiot, every highly trained Marine/Secret Service Agent/Soldier is taken out by the bad guys who somehow never miss except when shooting at the main protagonists.
I....the movie is a giant pile of fail. It borders are being a decent brainless action movie but keeps getting bogged down in terribly written plot. If it had been 90-100 minutes and cut out all the extraneous attempts to build suspense or develop the plot, it would be MUCH better.
Also, I'm amazed at how bad the CGI is for a "blockbuster" budget film. I mean, its not SYFY channel bad, but its not very good IMO.
I don't feel ripped off by the $1.20 we spent to rent it from Red Box, but neither would I suggest anyone spend $1.20 to watch it unless they are way more forgiving of facepalming stupidity and "holy crap is this going to actually go somewhere soon?" than I am.
Either of the GI Joe films ranks far above this is my book.
Youngblood might enjoy it for getting a laugh out of how things work in WHD world though.
