I’ll give it an 8/10

I really loved it and was pretty much “in it” from the very start. I kinda embraced all the animal wolf/bear howling stuff throughout the film, but if I saw the cringe in it I could see how it would totally take me out of the film, so maybe I lucked out. When I saw The Lighthouse I was on the edge of my seat the whole time in the theater, but I could never really get into it again on repeat viewings.

I agree with what you said about Kidman’s part, but I think she’s such a phenomenal actor that I wonder if it was the screenplay itself that led to some jarring changes in tone. There might have been a lot of extra scenes that they cut in order to keep the film fast paced.

I loved the visuals, especially the ones that showed all his ancestors, that stuff really gets to me. Overall this was just a badass fucking movie with some manly shit and I felt like my testosterone levels went through the roof lol

I think the animal connection was cool once they got to Skaarsgaard's character in "current time". The way they introduced it was just :freak: The Witch had different but similar vibes where it moved dead slooooooooooooow and they were all talking in their old english dialect or whatever. Just irritating choices that for me struck me as odd. I'll certainly be giving this one another go when it comes to the small screen.

Boring? It's a Michael Bay action movie! So dumb? Yes. Overlong? Yes. Completely unbelievable? Yes. I knew this going in. I enjoyed it for what it was. Certainly not a good movie. But some great action. And Gylenhall (htfever it's spelled) is great in everything. Not recommended but if you are cool with all the caveats I laid out; you might enjoy it!

Went with the boys to the that Multiverse thing last night.

Time with the kids watching a movie is great. But the movie itself....I just don't know anymore. Who is the target audience for this half baked hodge podge of world building that I could less than two turds about? Jesus. Back in the day when comic books weren't the basis for every. Single. Film. Being. Made....these kinds of jumbled up stories were an excuse to kill off characters (for dramatic content) so they could just write new stories on them in alternate timelines or realities when they realized they had no good new characters that they could pass the torch on to. I dig Raimi. Always have. His visual touch (as well as Elfman's soundtrack) were welcome additions to this. That's about it. Ugh.

^ I echo some of those sentiments...

I haven't been to the theater (disregarding the pandemic) in a long time simply because everything is based on comic books and superheroes. There's been nothing I care to see. Sure, there were a couple of good ones along the way, but in general I couldn't care much less for that shit.

I really hope the new Top Gun movie doesn't suck. It's the one film I've actually been looking forward to. Now that I think about it, I hate theaters at this point (punk kids, cell phones, noise) and may wait to see it in 4K HDR 9.2 surround in my living room...

^I knew what I was in for. And the performances were good. It's just...studios complaining about making money when all they make is a $37 billion blockbuster :freak:

KUNG FU HUSTLE (2006?) 9/10

Funny AF!

I love when they make movies that are so hyperbolic, that it ends up being a cartoon, but with real actors.

They literally lifted a scene from Coyote/Roadrunner, and it was great!

Highly recommended for mindless entertainment with loads of laughs!

Watched a creepy flick on Shudder last night. Broadcast Signal Intrusion. Clunky title. And there were definitely some loose ends that they left hanging. But overall super creepy and well done flick. Guy works as a video tech, transferring and archiving TV broadcasts. He stumbles across a series of unnerving, weird broadcast hacks. They start to converge with his deceased wife and the mystery begins.

It was a fairly messy story in a lot of spots. It had definite creepypasta vibe and reminded me of that Archive 81 series I tried watching earlier this year. Good stuff if you dig slow moving horror. Not gory at all and the loose ends factor could be problematic for some. But I dug the heck out of it.

The Lost City. Free on Hulu or wtever of the other 37 streaming services we pay for/10. Um; exactly what you expect. Little long. But Tatum, Pitt and Bullock do what they do and are hilarious. All things considered. Good dumb flick to kill and hour and a half on.

Looks like a Romancing The Stone clone to me.

Absolutely. Nothing great but funny if you like the actor's usual schticks.

I find Pitt and Bullock funny. I do not find Tatum funny. Maybe I haven't watched the right movie with him.

Deep House. Watch every Blumhouse movie and add every possible cliche you can think of that they somehow missed, BUT... put it underwater.

The Adam Project - Ryan Reynolds being mean to a young Ryan Reynolds.

OK, not really. But that kid did a good job of the sarcasta-whip comments back and forth.

The Ridiculous 6. Goofy comedic western with the usual suspects (Adam Sandler warning, though he's on his least egregious setting here.) Pretty funny and fun concept, if a bit over-the-top goofy at times.

It was so good and I’m hoping it wins some awards. It’s difficult to recommend to everyone because I’m not sure how some people will react to the crazy cartoony bits, but I think its messages have something for everyone. We laughed we cried we loved it. It’s an amazing trip.

Top gun: maverick - 10 bald eagles out of 10.

I watched the original Top Gun for the first time in my life over the weekend. I am a HUGE Tony Scott fan, and a much bigger Tom Cruise fan than I would normally expect myself to be. But Top Gun always looked wrong in all the wrong ways for my taste. Weird, dated, cocky, macho dumbass bullshit in ways that just didn't appeal to me. If I am going to watch that kind of thing; I am watching Predator or binging the Rambo series  I was pleasantly surprised to find it was much better than I always imagined it to be. We will probably go to the sequel at some point.

I gotta say; Tom Cruise doing anything resembling believable normal human being activity is always odd to me. I can't see this changing in the sequel. Also; to say Jennifer Connolly is an upgrade over Kelly McGillis is like probably, um; the biggest understatement of the century. Easily.

So much this. I recently rewatched War of the Worlds where Cruise is supposed be Joe Dockwocker. His idea of being "being just a regular Joe" is his character not understanding hummus.
