@Endtime The 512 is amazing. You could fill a rack with just those and never need another pre. When building my lunchbox I didn’t really know what I was doing. But If you plan to track drums. I recommend 2 of a like pre for the over heads. Its not totally necessary but it can make things easier. The 512 sounds perfect on whatever you put into it . It’s also cheaper than the SH But the SH is very good and can mimic the APi enough and the additional transformer sounds would be helpful on different sources so it’s perhaps a little more flexible in some situations but I don’t think the 512 would ever let you down. If I changed anything about my lunch it would be a 512 instead of the SH. Then it would be e a no fuss channel for drums and every thing else. That gold 500c is a straight up Neve made by a longtime Neve engineer and is very Neve. Super cool. Definitely a different color. Kinda dark & smoky. The grey Ocean Audio is a Trident and perhaps my go to for bass but there is something about it that catches the source and I just love that one. I can track just about anything with that box with or without EQ and comp. Got lunch ?

Cool. Thanks for the rundown. Yeah I was pretty set on the 512 for awhile then came across the Shadow Hills and idk, I’ve read a lot of good things.

I do have a Black Lion Audio b12a mkii. It’s obviously not an exact 512 clone but it does seem to fit the general idea. I do track drums and it sounded best on my snare for sure. And I like guitars thru it too, but no doubt the BLA is maybe a little too upfront for me at times with guitar. I generally need a 2ndmic thru a warmer preamp to get the right tone. I’m pretty sure the 512 is better and I actually saw a Vai rig rundown where he states API for guitars all day every day.

The other thread was kinda pointless. So I nuked it. Moved hotties here. Obviously Brian and Fretless did some hard work finding these beauties. Didn't want them to go to waste.

I posted multiple pics, is that allowed?

If not I'll trim it to one and try and take a better single shot

Multiple pics of the rig are A-OK!

The Head/Cab thread has got some serious contenders now.
