Dude! That is nuts, Loop! Just to be able to have the energy to complete a trip like that (even without rabid attack dogs) is awesome. I did a tenth of that and was completely gassed yesterday.

Thanks man!
The only way you can talk your body into doing this long of a ride is to manage nutrition.
My method (works for me)
Night before:
About an hour before bedtime, bowl of pasta, no sauce, just olive oil. 2 light beers.
Morning of:
2 egg whites, redbull, bagel with peanut butter
On ride:
One Gu packet (I like the caffeinated ones) every 45 minutes. Cliff bar at 50 miles.

I carry 3 bottles. 1 in my jersey, and 2 on cages on the bike. 2 bottles are water, bottle #3 is water + a caffeinated Nuun tablet.
https://nuun.com/products/nuun-energy
Skip Gatorade. Too much sugar/syrupiness. Good for 1 hour before a ride, but during the ride, not as much, IMO.
I did a 20 mile recovery ride today on lunch. Came in sore today, feel awesome now.
This is great info! I've wondered how to manage these, as I've been victim to the 70km wall as of late. A co-worker wants me to do the Banff grand fondo, but I'm not real keen on paying $250 to race.

I hate my white tape. It looks grubby after like 1 ride.
I'm switching saddles this weekend to a Fizik Tour de France, and going back to black tape.
Riding our 20 mi lunch route in about 45 minutes...weather is so nice here today. Low 70's, no wind, no clouds.

I've got Fizik Aliante and it's pretty good. I wouldn't mind doing something different, like a brooks cambium, but those bitches are heavy for the price. An Arione is half the weight. I'm not sure why you'd go with the Tour edition when the standard with kium rails is almost $50 cheaper.
Prepare to be slower. White tape is proven to be faster.

It looks like a great saddle, though I don't know why it has a natural forward pitch. I always feel like I'm sliding off when it's anything but slightly above level.

I got the Bontrager Inform RXL bibs. I have the shoes from the same series. Love em.
Also, hit a pothole at about 25 mph today, and I'm pretty sure I won't be having any more kids. lol.

I love the Louis Garneau Chrome bibs. Made in Canada too.
Ow. I hate those fucking taint bashers.
Are you group riding? I'm impressed you get over 40 km/hr avg on a flat section. Time to fucking grind the pedals with the new fit and positions. I was going to ride hard tonight, but I might have to clean my condo to list it for sale instead. Balls.

It was a 10+ hazard for a few days, but they just discovered that there was a spider in the sensor that was fucking with it and it's actually 4/10. I could have been riding the fucker this week without lung hazard.
I'z le sad. I wish my insurance deductible was lower.

itchyfingers wrote:Loop - I love the fact that 20 miles is just a quick little jaunt for you. That 75 should be a fun one this weekend, hopefully you guys are getting some nice weather out there, it is hot as balls here today, and muggy taboot. I thought you were switching to a Fizik saddle, how'd you get the Selle Italia?
SFM - DUDE that SUCKS! Thieves are lowest form of life.
I had a sweet ride yesterday at lunch, ran up the hill to the university and back in time for a meeting. I also rode to work today, so I'll have about 12 miles on the way home, taking a new route home that I setup using the Strava route creator. Its the way I ride to work, but I have never taken it home - a long ascent vs the really steep short hills that have been kicking my ass. The wife is out of town this weekend, so I plan to take a couple rides, hoping to get one in over 20 miles. I only need about 40 km to get my first badge on Strava - woohoo!

Last night was fast. No wind (finally) and a perfect 73 degrees! Stayed over 20mph the whole ride. Super great ride, group of 5. I pulled for about 8 miles.
Didn't like the Fizik I tried, and the same friend had the Selle Italia, so I tried that, and felt a lot less interference with my hip flexors, so...winner.
I'm watching your rides on Strava, and you're doing great dude! Keep enjoying it!
SuperFlyinMonke wrote:Does anybody know a current production model that comes with Sram Force 22 stock, by chance? I'm looking at the current line-up for various manufacturers and I really hate the burnt orange color of the 2015 Norco Tactic SL and it looks like next year they're dropping the Sram makeups. Just curious. Maybe I should shell out for the new E-Tap Red... Haha, nope.
