Good for you guys. Keep fighting the good fight.
I am 48, 5'10" and weigh 154lbs.. I was told by a nurse this morning that I have the heartrate of a athlete and the blood pressure of a teenager. So all of that clean eating and living is working out.

I was up to 286 in February of this year. Had a bunch of health problems and doc said I needed to turn things around or I was fucked.
No diets or gym memberships or any of that jazz. I started by skipping a few meals a week, and after a few weeks I didn't have enough room to put away so much food so I began eating smaller portions. Then I would come up to a mealtime and not be hungry, so I'd skip another. One day a week I only eat once and I try to have at least three other days where I eat twice. Down to 242 as of yesterday. A1c went from 7.4 in February to 6.1 in August. When I go back to the doc in February I hope to get my blood pressure meds reduced as there are a ton of side effects from these things, including weight gain and irregular blood sugar readings.
Still drinking beer but switched to light beer after drinking nothing but Budweiser since I was in high school. I didn't do that to lose weight, but after I lost about 15 lbs regular beer stunk and tasted like sugar mixed with burning plastic. And as with eating, I just don't have the room to put away so much beer like I used to. The edibles help quite a bit too as I don't drink as much when I take them and they also reduce my appetite.

Damn. The last time I weighed 154 was in 1988.

I graduated high school in 1985 at ~220lbs, after starting the senior year at 285. Literally starved the weight off me, eating only one small sandwich a day for nearly a month at a time (did this 3-4 times). Was brutal, and the weight kept yo-yo-ing through college and did nothing but climb when I got married. When I hit 165 in 2000-2001, I was in the best shape of my life. At 6'2", I had people telling me I looked like I was dying, and I loved it. Unfortunately, I was missing a major motivation in my life then that's really propelling me now, and I really feel like I'm gonna make this a permanent thing.

Shirt retirement last night:
Got this 3XL shirt on St Pats day. I’m now 60+ lbs down, so it was time to get a smaller one. Still a little big for the regular XL, so the new one is just a “tweener” for now.
Didn’t get a chance to photo the new shirt - will do that later today.

This one was from March:

What an accomplishment, that's great! I've bought more clothing in the last 6 months than I have in the last 20 years combined. I've got to keep at it though as 3 guys who I grew up with died of heart attacks between the ages of 48-52 and I don't want to be #4.

That shirt story is cool.
I was pretty proud of myself when I was able to put on some shirts I haven't worn in years and not feel like I was spray-painting them on. Now they're hanging nice and loose on me. Soon I'll be able to dig out the stack that I wasn't able to wear even before that.

Nope. Extraordinarily difficult. I've lost and gained the same 25-30 pounds multiple times over the years until I lost so much last year. I'm bound and determined to keep it off because I don't want to have to go through that again.
Still not as hard as quitting smoking, though. Batshit insane, how hard that was, and I wasn't even that heavy of a smoker. Now if I get within 25 feet of a lit cigarette, it makes me want to gag. Funny how that works.

Exactly one month of using Noom. Down 22 lbs. I don't feel like I'm dieting at all and I'm loving this. Energy galore. This is long-term, sustainable change.

Not a former fat dude but very much into body composition changes.
If you want to experiment with flexible dieting I highly recommend the Carbon Diet Coach app.
I’ve bulked, cut, reverse dieted and maintained all in the past year across periods of time all with the app making proper adjustments for me as needed.
I particularly like the planner portion which allowed me to have bigger Fridays and Saturdays even though I was in caloric deficit. Being able to have drinks, pizza, and wings on the weekends here and there and still lose weight is amazing.
This doesn’t use any gimmicks or “hacks” just straight forward caloric/macro balancing and allows you to choose the type of diet you’re after (if you wanna do Keto for example).

Over the past two days I've drug out shirts I haven't been able to wear in a SUPER long time because they would stretch out over my stomach and make me all self-conscious. They're loose now. Small victories. Should cross the fifty pounds down mark this weekend at some point when I get my longer cardio in. Woo!

Yeah, for me it's pants. Pants that I haven't been able to wear for two years are getting loose.

Great job, NFA & Yarb

I’ve had a similar victory - I’m able to easily wear a pair of cargo shorts I had to stop wearing in 2017.
And those are starting to get too loose

Well, it's psychology-driven weight loss. Not as weird as it sounds honestly. You have an app. You track your meals, water intake (optional), weight and activity every day. It becomes second nature and all that does is make you accountable for everything you are putting in, which alone helps a ton. They have lists of foods that you can eat all day to foods you should only eat every once in a while, but no foods are off-limits. it's up to you do decide what your foods will be. Making it accountable is enough to let you eat movie popcorn or birthday cake when the occasion arises, but you compensate for it.
You have daily courses which are motivation, but basically getting into your brain and the psychology behind why you do things. 5 minute read a day.
It sounds cheesy and some of it is. It's not cheap either, but it works for me. I needed that psychology to help me with gaining weight on a day or eating beyond your calorie limit on a day. That is when i'd give up. I'd weigh the same or more after a few days of intense dieting and I'd give up. OR... I'd just out of nowhere eat like crap one day and consider it ruined. Noom helps me with those things and keeps me going.
For me, it feels sustainable and it actually has literally changed my lifestyle. It may not be what some people need though.
I have 2 free week trials if anyone is interested.

Oh shit... I keep forgetting to get that message. Sorry for the delay, atrox!!!!
Down to 240 now. I'm targeting 230 by the start of the new year. Feeling WAAAY good.
Also, I've been able to cut (in half) the Gabapentin medicine I've been taking almost 10 years to help with the nerve problems I've been dealing with from sciatica. I've tried to cut it before, and failed every time. It's been a month at this cut rate, and I'm surviving. Really hoping to reduce / remove it further in the upcoming weeks
