Cheap dates are good dates, bishop...

I'm working on adding some muscle to my legs, averaging about 100 miles a week on the bike, seem to have hit this glass floor at 205 lbs. If I go lighter, I lose some power, and if I get heavier, its more mass to push around. Conundrum.

I am signed up for two rides so far in 2018:
the Belgian Waffle Ride (Wafer version) - 77 miles of on-and off road cycling, and
the Multiple Sclerosis 150 - 80 miles from Denver to Ft Collins on the first day, and then a 70 mile ride the next day, back to Denver

The BWR is pretty much a guaranteed 6 hours of torture. Not too worried about the distance or climbing for the MS150, but training for elevation when you live at sea level is hard...

Oh, I wish I transformed since last post, but I am happy to be down 15 lbs. I'm trying to keep my window of eating to 10 hours and that seems to help a lot. My blood sugar is high and I need to get retested though...I may have used up all of my cookie and ice cream credits. It has been a major weakness for me, but now that I have a new Marshall everything is looking up! I'll just tube crunch when I get the treat cravings

Great work everyone. Im only 5'9-5'10 and I ballooned up to 230lbs when I first moved here to.Charlotte. I think it was because I really missed my daughter and gf so much I found comfort in bojangles ckn and some.really bad food. In august I was a size 40 waist and in the absolute worst shape of my life. My Dr told me to lose 20 pounds because I was dangerously close to having full blown diabetes.
At that moment I knew I had to.commit to losing weight. Well fast forward 5 months and I'm 185 and getting into my best shape at 44 years old.

Hitting the gym every other day at 6am. Eating only cottage cheese at night. No breads or sugars. Turkey chili everyday. Salmon on the weekends. Its tough but I got used to it.

Lots of slack here, admittedly... so much going on between new job (with new friends / socialization), kids activities, and more. All I seem to do is eat & sit, and haven't been to the gym since before Xmas. Weight is definitely up - I can feel it in my clothes, and I can't bring myself to get on the scale.

I have it scheduled to hit the gym at 8:30 this morning. Here's hoping to a new start to a new return.

This is awesome, nurps, all of it! Good on you for listening to your doc and committing to that diet. Buying all new clothes because the old ones are too big = winning. Speaking of - what did your waist size drop to?

Awesome work!

Just be careful of cholesterol with all the meat. I’ve been cutting back for that reason.

Hey guys thanks so much for the kind words. They mean a lot to me. Someone had asked about my waist size, I was a 40 now I'm a tweener 34-36. 34 still too tight and 36 too big.
The best exercise I have done for cardio has been the rowing machine. If ya'll aren't doing it currently I would highly suggest giving it a whirl. It works big time. I only do 1500 meters in intervals x3 each day at the gym which adds up to 8-10 minutes each time not crazy. It will widen your back, strengthen your forearms and burn fat. Guud stuff.

Day 2 of the get offa my assa and make shit done program

Spent the morning cleaning the scout house grounds with the troop, before hiking up our local hill, Mt Rubidoux - covered about 3 miles with about 600' altitude gain. Pretty good. Proceeded to the pool with my boys and did another 30 min. Even better.

A cool new gym is opening this month near my work and I just got an early adopter reduced rate memebership. It has a huge free weights area amongst the regular stuff so I'm going to start on ICF 5x5.

i should probably try the rowing machine though i strongly prefer outdoor activities for cardio, namely hiking. some really nice trails close to me.

if i lived in charlotte, i'd be out hiking in the pisgah or cherokee national forests every weekend.

Oh the weather has been the pits here for months. Its starting to get really nice so I will definitely be bike riding on trails and hiking very soon. I was in such bad shape before I couldn't enjoy the outdoors but now I can handle long hikes and long bike rides. I like cardio in the gym because I cycle weight training and Boxing with cardio. I train my muscles at complete failure and its been hard af but working great. So basically I'll do some weight training, row 1000-1500 meters then hit a heavy bag for 5 2 minute rounds (working my way to 3 minute rounds), then rinse and repeat.
Some say to do 30 minutes of cardio straight but the boxing is cardio with a lot of other intangibles mixed. I was so fat and out of shape just 5 months ago. This really worked for me along with a diet. I'm 183lbs as of this morning, I want to hit 170 and then maintain in perpetuity.

If any of you are feeling like you are too far out of shape to even start, I promise you that you aren't. I was so out of shape I couldn't even walk a flight of stairs without being completely winded. The key IMO is that I started slow and at my own pace. I did what I needed to do to feel.comfortable and got myself in a rhythm and schedule of actually going to the gym. I know a lot.of people get burned out within a few weeks, they key is to not get burned out and let your mind and body crave the repetitive nature of constant training. If I can do it, anyone can because I was a pizzaholic carb machine that ate fistfulls of potato chips and m&ms every day.

been keeping up lately, but i lapsed a bit during the holidays. Too cold to go to the gym. hahahaha. I only went up 10 lbs though and have already lost that, so back at it.

Switched my gym time from after work to before work. I just take it more seriously in the morning and im not as spent, so less chance of me skipping.

Right now doing a low carb thing too.

So... I decided I'm far enough along to post in (and, yes, revive) this thread...

Reposting this here from my FB feed, dated Oct 22:

Today, I am 250.

As my family and friends know, I've been dealing with fairly significant weight issues for most of my life. It's led me to depression, illness, chronic pain, and many other problems that have considerably lowered my quality of life for the better part of 30-40 years.

Back in my senior year (1984), I took myself from 285 down to 220 or so, and was able to keep myself below the 250 mark until a couple years into my marriage in the early 90s. From there, I steadily went up to 285 again.

In 1999, I got the bug to get myself into shape, and started working out. Got serious into cycling, and got down to almost 165. I was scaring everyone around me, but I was in the best shape of my life, culminating with my doing century rides (100+ miles) on my bike nearly once a month, and literally climbing mountains (ie: starting in Redlands @ 1200' altitude, and climbing for 65 miles through Big Bear and over Onyx Summit @ nearly 8500', before a 45 minute descent at 40+ mph and completing almost 110 miles in about 7 hours).

My sons were born in 2003 and 2005. Between wanting to spend time with them, working, and going to school, I lost steam, and the weight came back.

In June 2016, I turned 49, and hit the highest weight I will ever be - 317 lbs. I was beyond miserable, and it negatively impacted most areas of my life: my marriage was pretty much over, the job that I loved would end in self-created disaster the following March, my blood pressure was out of control, and the sciatica that had been affecting my body since 2012 was killing me.

In October that year, I joined a gym with my sons, and started working on my weight and chronic pain, focusing on swimming/aqua fit classes and spending time on the elliptical machine. This, combined with eating better, allowed me to lose about 65 lbs, putting me just north of 250 in mid-2017. My boys got the bug as well, and managed to successfully take off a lot of the extra weight they were carrying. This was a big boost, but I started falling into old habits as the year wore on, much of which I spent finding new employment, and the weight came steadily back.

This year has brought entirely new challenges and opportunities - and an entirely new focus on making myself better. I joined the YMCA and found AMAZING instructors at the pool, who have been extremely helpful in working through my sciatic pain and getting me focused on losing weight. I'd managed some success on my own, and then in early August I met the newest, most wonderful person in my life (outside of my immediate family), who has become my ultimate accountability partner. I've gotten her to the pool, and she has helped me learn about the Keto diet, and it's doing wonders.

It took a lot for me to post this, as I've always been embarrassed about my weight problems, and didn't want to start a "Look at me! I'm dieting!" thread early on that'd probably wind up in failure. Instead, I told myself that I'd celebrate a bit by posting when I had some real numbers to work with. Well, I'm officially down 67 lbs from my highest weight today and it's the lowest I've been, going back to when my sons were born.

...and, today I am 244 :rawk: Seriously feeling like I can start 2022 somewhere between 220-225lbs. :arr:

Cool thread.

Early this year I looked at the scale and essentially tore my ass apart over it. I mean, fuck me, 340 pounds?

I switched up a TON of shit with my eating habits, started taking walks to the tune of about five miles a day, and doing morning workouts six days a week.

I'm down to 295 as of this morning. Slow and steady is sustainable for me.

I started Noom a couple of weeks ago and it's honestly life changing. The psychology aspect of it really works even though it can be corny. Dropped 15 lbs in 2 weeks and I barely feel like I was dieting in any way. It doesn't feel like a diet at all.

I need to get on something, prior to covid, I lost 23 lbs from walking a lot daily and eating better. During the shutdowns, I stopped walking once it got too hot, started eating like crap and drinking beer daily. I put all the weight back on and haven't done anything.
Today was the first day in a long time I took a walk in the morning, so I am trying to get back on track with my twice a day walks at work along with a longer one at the park after work.

In 2017, I was something like 240 pounds, size 42 waist. Blood pressure was through the roof, having headaches because of it, etc. Quit smoking in June of that year (still haven't smoked since then), and lost weight to around 185-190 lbs. Slowly but surely put most of that back on, then got sick of what I saw on the scale, and in May of last year, decided to do something about it. Went on a keto diet, started walking a lot (about 15,000 steps per day), and we used that $1200 stimulus issued to buy a NordicTrack rowing machine. Lost my way down to ~170ish pounds and a 34 waist. That was about January, when our cat passed away due to cancer, and I haven't really lost any weight since then. I'm also of the age (I'm 46) where its getting harder and harder to maintain this. I'm still eating keto. I eat once per day, lots of beef and bacon, because I have to have high fat meals in order to not be starving the rest of the day. We eat wafer thin crust pizza once per week, but that's about all I allow myself. I don't consume any candy or any processed foods. I still walk the 15k steps and hit the rowing machine about 5 days a week, but my weight can and does fluctuate wildly from about 171 to 177, 178 and back, depending on the day. I don't drink beer. Do drink whiskey.

Keeping it off has been a real pain in the ass at my age. I certainly don't expect it to get any easier. Rather, I fully expect to put on weight despite all of that. Going to have to figure out what to cut out.

Good to see this - let's get everyone (at least those willing to admit their phatness) on the bandwagon :rawk:

Put this together the other day. Of note:
* Red - topped out at 317 (my highest point ever) for my 49th birthday (June, 2016)
* Green - started working out at the end of that same summer, and got to work on my diet through the beginning of 2017. Got down to 254 during the summer, but was dealing with replacing my lost job and then the second flood in my house. Depression definitely got it's hooks back in me, and started me on the path to breaking 300 again.
* (not circled) - had a breakthrough in mid- through late-2019, but stopped cold by infection/hospital stay/recovery at the end of that year.
* Yellow - Weighed in @ 308 at the end of May (this year). Decided to give myself a 54th birthday present and try to live a bit longer. Seems to be working :thu:
