I was 6' tall... and 120lbs soaking wet.


I lived in a very wealthy area growing up. My parents didn't spoil me. Kids gave me shit for years for the clothes I wore, and eventually lead to bullying.

yeah i missed the point of the thread entirely based on the first few posts, my bad.

bullying is a major issue, especially now with the internet. kids are killing themselves over it, really sad stuff. i think fb is taking steps to prevent it, i heard a story about it recently how you can report stuff - hopefully that helps but way more needs to be done.

^ had a similar deal growing up.. I wasn't that big but I stood up for myself and my first year in what you guys would call high school I got in a fight and beat shit out of a guy who tried to bully me, after that I was pretty much left alone... I also HATE seeing someone being picked on, really pisses me off and once I got older and got a little bigger would stop shit if I could...


To me the biggest problem are people like Jesse Jackson that are quick to point out when wrongs are being done to African Americans but turn a blind eye when it comes to examples when African Americans are in the wrong...

Ok , I gotta disagree with this. Us older guys remember when this was absolutely true. Most kids today have ZERO respect for adults or authority. This generation has a lack of parenting in the upbringing of today's kids. And YES, I am gonna go here, but did Treyvon "respect" Zimmerman because he was an adult and acting as an authority figure in a neighborhood watch? I think the parents need to be charged with serious crimes for their kids' actions. Put the power and punishment in their hands.

I knew a kid like that & he got treated the same way.

I didnt live in a wealthy area, but my old man made good money (over 110k a year in the 1980's). We had a nice house, mom drove Caddy's & Lincoln's. You wouldnt have known it looking at me though. They bought me nice clothes, but I'd rather wear my ragged t-shirts & holey Levi's. Kids who were better off than me made snide remarks, and kids who were dirt poor did the same. (though I had friends from all sorts of classes / back grounds)

yeah... I guess I see your point here... and to go along with what Ron is saying above.. here in Trinidad parents can be held liable for their children's actions... kids can still be punished but by law the parents can be fined as well

i dont know how much control some of these parent have by that point, so it might be retroactive punishment. i still like the paralysis idea.

The police old us to avoid that area and refused to investigate the hit and run. "They sell crack over there. I would advise never going back." We explained that our rehearsal room was over there and he shrugged and said to take a long way around that neighborhood. Wtf

I think that if you're liable for your child's actions you'll FIND a way to get some form of control or at least ensure they know how to behave and act in public.

I didn't have a choice. My jeans had holes in them and folks said tough shit. They got me one pair of shoes per year, $40 max. As you can imagine, one pair of shoes for a 13 year old get worn the fuck out fast when said kid didn't have video games and had to grow up outside. I was rachet as fuck. It was kinda funny later on when everyone got in to grunge and got cool with me. Like wtf assholes I've dressed exactly the same.


Anyway, I did go out and get a job at 13 so I could buy clothes to fit in.

I got in a fight when I was at junior high and I was actually losing the fight when I pushed the guy away from me and he tripped, hit his head on the curb and got knocked out cold. People thought *I* knocked the guy out (he was way bigger than me) and that reputation carried out through high school since it was the same kids for the most part. Truth is, I lucked out big time on that fight, then lived off that reputation.

Bullying fucking sucks though, I am worried about it happening to my son. That would be terrible.

Back then I had really long hair, and worn out clothes. I guess that was a free pass to flip shit. Whatevs, it made me who I am today.

My son was getting bullied his fourth and fifth grade year. I talked to his teacher and principal SEVERAL times. That didn't stop it. Finally, I taught my son to fight and assured him he would not be in trouble at home for defending himself. One bully picked the wrong day to pick on my son and Sebastian clocked him and it was on. This happened in front of all the bully's friends who would also pick on my son. The fight only lasted a few seconds as the teacher intervened and broke it up. He hasn't had any trouble since.

He didn't even face any punishment from the school because the teacher saw the entire thing go down. I told him I was proud of him for standing up for himself.

I will go fucking nuts on the other kid's parents. Like straight full potato. I won't even worry about the kids. Ill fuckkn hunt the parents down in my car

My younger brother was like that. Really skinny guy and looked really frail so kids tried to pick on him a few times and I had to intervene. Then I moved out to high school one year before he did and he had sort of a rough last year in junior high. Then when he moved to high school I fixed that shit real quick

All I ever did was growl at people though and hope and pray they wouldn't call my bluff. I am not a real good fighter so I try to be as scary as I possibly can before they even think about making a move. "You say one more word and the next thing coming out of your mouth is a fucking tooth" kind of shit.

im no bleeding heart liberal pussy by any means, but how is say a 60 year old, 90 pound grandmother who is raising a 17 year old after his mother died of a crack overdose and his dad is nowhere to be found, supposed to control a 220lb 6'3" jacked motherfucker? there comes a point when they realize their physical power and that overrides any sort of control to be had.

granted this is maybe after a whole childhood of bad parenting, or it could just be a bunch of other miscreants manipulating him. either way, that would kind of suck to lock up granny.

Growing up in Detroit during the race riots I saw first hand how stupid racism is several times. When I was a teenager I saw a person being beat up by five people bigger than him. I asked them to stop & the reply was "what are you going to do about it".... I broke a few peoples ribs. Out of the about fifty people watching it I was the only one to do anything about it. A few years later I ran into him again & he told me they never bothered him again & he thanked me.

Fair enough. It would need some kind of appeal process but if the guardian has that little control then the kid needs to be removed from that situation.

Hell, honestly I have no clue and I'm not someone that has the mental capacity to deal with the correct solution.

I know a lot of assholes that actually came from good families/parents. One thing my son will NEVER be able to say is that his dad didn't teach him right from wrong. But ultimately, learning it is up to him.

im telling you, it involves paralysis/castration.
