It’s weird that I don’t even know if the original Gino’s East is even still around, I know a bunch of the “satellite” ones are gone but that was a place where you were encouraged to write in the walls, engrave shit in the tables and rails etc etc. The entire place was graffiti and carved up wood. I mean, of course you’d like to eat there as a kid. The pizza was sorta secondary. But I loved going to that place. Now, I’d guess the original in the city is still around but don’t know. They’d bring the entire pan, which was essentially a blazing hot iron skillet to the table. So it’s stay warm.. Shit was legit. Barely any places like this exist anymore.
My point is I honestly think some of these “legendary” pizza places are legendary cause of the establishment and it’s uniqueness rather than the pizza. Or I should say it’s Both. The environment and pizza. . And even tho it is good, I just rarely order deep dish anymore. Maybe cause that experience from a kid is long gone. Now I get a boxed deep dish with soggy crust cause all the juices pool into the box and saturate the bottom
