CA had its chance to course correct on a portion of our woes but failed to do so. We deserve where we’re headed…

Oil markets are being choked out by big institutional investment portfolio's like universities, and hospitals, etc.. They are divesting from fossil fuels and shrinking what was a almost bottomless ocean of cash for drilling companies to pull from whenever they need to bore new holes. While inflation is expected to peak right now and then drop two points by the end of the first quarter 2022, oil may stay up high for good. That said, if you follow the EIA website, they are reporting current increases in our oil stockpile and a new section of pipeline has opened from Canada across Minnesota. Whether or not that has any effect on refining capacity is a different discussion.

The most interesting part of this current inflation is whether the talking heads or the AI/machine learning models will be right or wrong. The models generally all agree that it will fall soon. But the talking heads are still saying it is here FOREVER.

Man vs. machine.

Homeslice went political. I should have predicted it. Or did and I ignored my own inner voice. Fuck. I was just shocked to see $300+ guitar necks.

It's $3.69 regular here in Rockville. Premium, I don't even know  My car doesn't need that. Baltimore is way cheaper and I can still find a few places under $3 there, so I've been filling up when I go to my lockout studio in Bmore.

Oddly enough, it's a bit cheaper in DC too. Not as cheap as Bmore but cheaper than here, which is weird because everything else is crazy expensive in DC.

I also have to say I AM REALLY FUCKING GLAD I sold that PA house, which used oil for heating and we'd go through about 200 gallons/months on the coldest months. At these prices we'd been royally fucked this winter. Good riddance.

I vaguely did. Moving on…

Across the globe fuel production is way below where it should be at this point of the year going into winter. There will be no quick fix or bandaid, no begging and pleading to OPEC or anywhere else to solve it. Fuel is the master commodity. The cascading effect of fuel shortages is going to be amazing to watch.

OPEC just met yesterday and decided they would stick to their original plan of increasing to 400k barrels a day, the US was calling for more. They also said that if the US felt the world needed more, then we should increase our production. So expect higher costs.

We are edging to almost 4 a gallon here for the cheap stuff

OPEC may want to be careful what it asks for.

Shouldn't we use up all the OPEC oil first... and save ours for the apocalypse?

A test run apocalypse is going to happen over the next few months. Just wait. It’s not hyperbole or chicken littling. The machine that provides and feeds and allows our way of life is coming to a grinding halt. Sure it’s survivable but we have not experienced this ensuing level of discomfort as a society in any of our lifetimes.

The reaction to the real actual supply chain crisis and rampant inflation is going to make things particularly interesting.

I've always said this, but there are legit opposing arguments

3.45 here in SW Michigan. I just don't want to fill up at these prices.

Also, I remember reading that Prudhoe Bay in Alaska is swimming with oil, so maybe we'll be ready for the zombie apocalypse?

Still under $3/gallon in Texas :D

We're about to drive up to Jackson Hole, WY through Colorado which should be fun. I wonder if fuel will surpass our resort price.

Yeah we're currently at $4.43/gal for 87 octane (after conversion and exchange).

Is that expensive?

Heard a report yesterday. I hope everyone who lives in cold places has some extra $ for their heating bill.

Natural gas and heating oil are going up 30-50% compared to previous years peak season prices. Propane is doubling in price. Maybe get what you need now before we hit the really high demand time.

Also it doesn't look like we'll be prioritizing our own citizens and we'll all have to compete with the international market as we're exporting our natural gas currently at that higher demand price. Thanks guys!!!

I live in CA so I can manage with sweats, wool socks, and making the kids huddle in a corner. Feeling sorry for all the cold zone bros.

Natural gas heating is not very expensive, all things considered.

Heating oil on the other hand  I can't even imagine what it'd be like if I was still living in PA. It would've easily cost me $700+/month this winter.

ya, natural gas is pretty damn cheap. Far cheaper than electric heat from my experience.
