this is interesting reading-- i don't need any such thing really, but it's cool to see 'analogous speaker' circuits actually built-- i've only seen 'em as schematics in speaker building discussions!

curious to see how it all works out- as soon as i started reading i was thinking 'how come you guys don't use ferrite core inductors? so much cheaper...' and thats right where it went. those things are fantastic, and i built my altec crossovers with 'em. saved a shitton of money for 2.5mH's, and sound great.

Basically just replacing the load resistor in the Aiken's schematic with my load box.

Looks right to me. As soon as I sober up, I'll clean up the schematic to look like it wasn't drafted by a tard.

Dean ML => Homemade 100W Plexi => Aiken's designed reactive load (transformer driven line-out mod) => Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB Interface => Reaper DAW.

As I said, I added a slight reverb IR before rendering.

It *is* panned center (unless I'm drunk awlready)

This is "where is your God now" toan.

I'm gettin' some fizzies I'm not digging at certain times - ergo the changes I'm making wif the reactive capacitor.

Also not digging the heat from the "dummy load" portion of the circuit, therefore the power resistor upgrade from 150W each to 250W each.

i wonder if changing resistors is gonna help.. you're still dissipating wattage either way.. so figure it's gonna still get hot, right? mo headroom in parts is better i guess anyhow for safety's sake.. but i ain't no enjunier.

curious to see what happens with the 20 extry uF of caps! is a 10% up in capacitance gonna bring in more bottom? i've never really gotten reactance circuits.. so not sure exactly how that works.

ha! sheeit.. i dunno about it-- i know enough to get me in trouble and definitely not enough to design my way back out

well.. best i know from doing passive crossover circuits is that the bigger the cap, the more low end passes. how that all works out in a POWER circuit.. er... um... hm. i'll wait to hear how the results turn out on that one..

but as for the resistors- well-- if y' figger wattage off the amp is is dissipated in watts heat.. if you're cranking that plexi into a load box.. yer probably burning off close to 100w of heat. if you stuck 100 watts of light bulb in a lil box.. it's still gonna get hot- so i dunno if heat sinks make any dif- it's still ending up as hot air inside the box-- mebbe you gotta supasize yer fan. i wonder if anybody's ever made a water cooled unit...

i hear ya though.. its confusing as hell not knowing 100% what's going on in the circuit and not having an EE degree

My buddy has a Hotplate that he uses with a 20 watt amp. He brought over the hot plate for me to try on my 100 watt Hi-Tone DR103 clone.
He was flipping out about how much hotter the Hotplate was getting with my amp. He was worried that the Hotplate was going to burn out.

My RockCrusher gets really hot with my Hi-Tone, my 100 watt Jubilee and even my 60 watt Sunn Solarus produces a lot of heat.

Pretty sure it's normal to expect a lot of heat with your 100 watt Plexi.

No, a reactive load only looks like a speaker(or a cabinet of multiple speakers) to the amp.

In other words, the amp reacts differently to this type of load than just a purely resistive load (dummy load).

A reactive load pushes energy back into the output section of the amp at certain times, depending on what you're playin', how hard the amp is being pushed, etc.

It sounds like ass if you just take the line out from this and record it in your DAW.

You have to use speaker cabinet IR's and such to make it sound normal again. In the clip here I used NadIR to load a Redwirez Marshall 1960A cabinet and I miked it with an SM57, just off cone but really close miked.

Then, I added some "Sunset Studios reverb room" reverb to the track. Not much, just enough so it wasn't dry as fuck.
