I had George L's for a long time but switched to the Planet Waves and I like those a lot more. They feel a lot more solid to me and the G.L's were shorting sorta often after I'd have 'em on there a while.

I have two sets of George Ls too. I had trouble when moving things around with random shorts. They can be a real pain when you have a failure right before a performance because of a pedal swap. The random shorts were one of the contributing factors to me simplifying my pedal board.

That is what I am talking about! That pedal board is CLEAN!!! Those Lava Cable plugs are such a low profile that they really clean up the board.

Thanks everyone for your input, there has been some great feedback! I really wish the Lava Cable didn't cost as much as it does... I would have to buy 3 kits to make my pedal board clean. The same goes for the Planet Waves, I would need to buy multiple kits to make it work out for me.

The more I think about it, the more I am second guessing myself on getting the solderless kits... I can get those GLS Audio plugs for $30 for 25 plugs, and then I could buy cable of my choice...

Cole

this was actually the biggest factor that got me back on buying or making my own cables... they cost of making your own is so much smaller compared to buying a kit. cutting the cable and screwing a plug on.. and in reality.. they probably don't save you much time making them

Thanks for all the information... Sounds like George L and GFS are out of the equation. After getting my new pedal switcher setup today, I need some smaller plugs to get back some real estate on my board... So I am thinking the Lava cables will be what I go with [probably in increments].

Check out Clearfuse connectors buy Mammoth. They have kits with the "Lava" style ends. Also Lava has solderless kits that use other cables that are cheaper.

These are cheaper and reliable alternatives to the expensive Lava cable.

I didn't realize that Lava Cable made a special plug for Canare GS-6 cable! Those Mammoth ones look great too!

This is what my pedal board looks like with my current cables/plugs and my new switcher... You can see why I want to get a custom kit with small plugs...

I have a Lava cable set. While I think they are good, they are also a huge pain to make.

The first time I made them, they didn't work at all. Then I found this video and used that method. Works great, but to be honest, it would have been faster to solder them.

It seems like it would take more time to solder the cable to plugs, but I haven't tried any of these systems, so I will have to take your word for it.

At this point, I am needing the smaller plugs. They seem to play much better with my switcher.

You will see what I mean in this video... He uses a plug that looks similar to the Lava Cable plug and it takes up little space. If you compare that to the picture I just posted, you will see that I would love to get some of that space back :D

This is my board now. But I want to add a Strymon Möbius and a DMC3-xl to the board. Soon this will be on a pedaltrain.

That is a nice looking board! I am not familiar with the Strymon unit or the DMC3-XL [I have no idea what this even is]... I love my pedaltrain; such an easy concept that works great!

I decided to order a set of the Gepco XB20UB cable with the Lava CX plugs... I needed the smaller footprint around the ins/outs of my switcher...

If I like them, I will get some more sets [since I will need more than 6 cables].
