I agree but a couple comments were a little funny. I knew what I was getting into posting a thread about my mommy listening to my tone.

Anyway, my parents come see my original bands from time to time. My dad is also a guitar player and he's been my role model that influenced me to play. Heck, they even came to see telephants band last time he was in Dallas.

yeah I wasn't even going to justify the living with mom comments by arguing differently.

My mom took me to meet Jerry Cantrell and Rob Zombie (not at the same time or place) when I was 10 and listening to grunge. She's been a fan of classic rock all my life and her tastes have been a HUGE influence on my own musical preferences. I remember driving with her to San Fransisco when I was 13 and I had the Faith No More album The Real Thing playing. They cover War Pigs on that album and I totally tripped out when she started singing along because I didn't know it was a cover song. I was like "you know this song?!?!?!" and she was like "Fool, what do YOU know about Black Sabbath?!?!" So anyway, through the years whenever I've gotten excited about guitar and music I try to share my excitement with her.

Man, that is really cool. My mom likes to hear me play but she doesn't to very often but the last time she did I had just gotten my MarkIIC back from a checkup.

my mom was/is a jazz singer. She doesn't perform much these days (she's 72) but still kills when she does. My grandpa (her dad) was the best guitar player I've ever met. He played classical guitar exclusively but he was mind blowing.

Jokes aside, it was fucking great to have a supportive family when I was growing up. These days the support mostly comes from my kid and my gf, which is also cool.

I've never thought about asking my mom what does she think about my guitar tone though. She always comments on my music as a whole but never on my tone.

My mom loves music, just doesn't want me to focus my attention to being in a band. You'll catch her singing along to my 80's ballads, making fun of me about Cinderella's Heartbreak Station that the train had left hours ago.

I remember this ultra-conservative neighbor was worried about her daughter listening to grunge at the time, and my mom was like "Nirvana and Soundgarden are not too bad, you can probably stans Pearl Jam compared to those two".

Yeah, my mom blasted all those 60's/70's folk along with Abba, Air Supply and Barry Manilow, so eventually I grew up to liking them.

My mom has always liked my music ever since I was writing on the piano but it was high gain tone that grated her ears to the point where she couldn't listen to the music I had written, so for me, getting my mom to the point of commenting on the music requires a sound check. It's really awesome that I've got the biggest and most aggressive sound I've ever had but it's all been finely tuned and dialed in to the point where she can listen, and for a while
