Basically a stock Plexi putting out that sound.
Does it work the power tubes extra hard though?
I tink I remmeber EVH saying that he had to change them weekly or less with the variac
Yup! It is actually a Stock Superlead spec (very close to a plexi) and the electronic variac is actually easy on the Tubes. It doesn't work exactly like the regular variac but it warps the hell out of the sound and makes it distort like a mother lol. That sound is coming from 2 gain stages which is usually very clean. When EVH used his variac I'm pretty sure that he plowed through tubes but not as much as he said he did IMHO.
all the best!

That's what the tone reminded me of , so that's why I did a little bit of VH in the beginning. Now that I'm listening back to it, I should have done more chords instead of so much weedly weedly but I got carried away lol
All the best!

You are very welcome and I thought heard some bits of VH here and there.

Yeah, Like I said before, Mike has a TON of ideas/Mods in his arsenal. Most of the clips that you have heard were more then likely of his modern Voiced amps and even some of the cali Mod clips feature newer type players that dial the amp in for a more modern aggressive tone.
(Which is cool, but not always the tone I look for! )
Here are some clips of his Cali mod. I dialed it in for more of a VH sound compared to the low end chug some guys go for.

I have heard some Fortin clips in the past that are kinda 'meeh' sounding (not bad at all, but some are a bit 2 modern for me) -- but i really like that tone, fucking raw/big and in your face. I wonder how the response was on the guitar when played
I can only imagine how loud that amp can get lol... V30's ha? hmmmmm i have a LOVE/HATE with them lol, i really do
Wassup!!
That's the thing about Mike. He has many different Mods/Tones under his belt.
I know a lot of his mods are geared towards the modern Crowd but the guy can do anything.
I've been interested in amp Mods for years and being the old Bastard that I am, I've played or owned a lot of Modded Marshalls. The ones that Mike built for me have been the best I've ever played!
That amp can get so loud that it can make you sick....seriously, If you were in the room with that amp dimed, It can make you nauseous lol.
The response on the amp is amazing and very touch sensitive.
I did not use v30's in that clip. I used Greenbacks. I used v30's on the Fortin Bones clip.
I used to have a love hate with v30's to until I found out that there were 3 versions of that freaking speaker! One is celestions regular version, The other is the version made for Marshall (HATE THEM!!) and the other is made for Mesa Boogie.
All 3 versions sound different. The Marshall is the most ice pick in the ear lol
All the best!
~R~
Good deal Ralph
That is my fav Fortin clip so far, just enough grunt with keeping the old school Marshall vibe, very nice job. I never knew about 3 version of V30's (I have a Mesa 2x12) and it *IS* a love/hate type deal. Greeback clones (WGS?) are on my radar
I just checked the other recent clips (Tonefinder on your last couple posts and those ripp as well)
Nice clip bro and glad to see some on the board

Yeah, I was hipped to the different versions by Mike. He used to work for Marshall and he had mentioned that both Mesa and Marshall had there own Spec and even celestion has there own thing happening. I like the Celestions the best followed by the mesa. I wont use the Marshall v30's

Great to be here BTW!! \m/ \m/

Thanks so much Brother Steve!!
You know how much of a gain and effects ho I am hahahaha! Oddly enough I spent the last few years playing out live with little to no effects. I'm actually going to go back to using them because I just like it better

Tough nut to crack hahahaha!

Well Ralphie my bro,
I am sorry it took me so long to reply... I had to take my guitars and amps to the dump!
That tone, but more so the playing, just knocks me out... YOU will make ANYTHING sound
OUTSTANDING bro! Seriously there too!
That tone though, is seriously one of the BEST Super Lead tones I have heard... Blown away!

BroChris, you know I love ya man, but I HAVE to disagree.
I RARELY hear ANY Plexi or Super Lead that sounds anywhere NEAR like that stock, truly.
I have heard modded ones come close, and even the Holy Grail of Ed's Plexi does NOT sound
that good to me in isolation...
That one that Ralphie has, is seriously something special when it comes to GREAT Marshall tone,
at least to my ears!

Fair enough, mang ~ you know I'm not even gonna argue on this point. I'm a fresh convert to the Marshall camp and quite a n00b still. I'm quite sure there are differences I just haven't learned to pick up & distinguish yet, y'know? All I know is I love what I heard.
