yeah that makes sense because the C5 and CC are kind of in the opposite sides of the "custom" tone. The c5 is the brightest custom series pickup and the CC is the darkest.

I like the CC in strat-style guitars but for Gibsons I prefer the c5.
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

You'd actually want a Duncan Custom on an SG instead of the Custom 5.

I had a Custom Custom in the bridge position of my LPC and I liked it a lot but it was just a little too compressed. I have a 59/Custom Hybrid in there now and it is pretty much what I was looking for. Hot enough to push my amp but not so hot it sounds compressed. I put a Phat Cat in the neck and that pickup rocks for clean work but blows my away for dirty leads.

The other guitar player in my band bought a Gibby Custom Classic, changed out the bridge PU to a Custom 5, but it didnt sound right. Took it to a local luthier and come to find out they put 300k pots in these???, switched out the 300k's for 500k's and the thing just rips ass now. It doesnt sound as sweet as my Gibby 1960 Classic with the pearly gates in the bridge and the alnico 2 in the neck, but its much more aggressive sounding.

I wish I didn't trust your ear Billy. Every time you post about the pickups you're trying it gives me gas.

yessir good call. I did change the pots to 500k. I had it done a while ago so I forgot to mention it this time but yes they are key to get the C5 to sound great! :-bd

You don't like the Dimarzio Super D? That's one of those pickups I always come back to, cuz they are my starting point pickup to figure which direction i need to go when swapping.

Did u not like the stock 500t ? I think that's what Gibson put in the sgx anyway.

Anyone who plays in a metal band knows that EMG's are the best for live use. Nothing cuts and sounds as defined as an 81. even if the difference is subtle, it's still there.

It was alright, but a little too harsh for my taste. I've had great experience with the 500T in a Les Paul and a V, but in the SG it was a little too bright and harsh.

How do you think it would match a 36th Anni PAF? Or PAF Pro/Joe?

It would be a good match for the PAF Pro in the neck. Actually, that's probably what I am going to do in my SG Special, I will move the PAF Pro (currently in the bridge) to the neck position and add the Custom 5 in the bridge. It's an awesome pickup, very powerful but with a vintage voice and amazing clarity.

I am not sure about the 36th Anni, I have limited experience with it, but think it would be slightly underpowered in comparison to the C5 but maybe not since the neck position is naturally louder.

I have never tried the 500t in an sg but love them in lp's. one of my favorite pickups when playing through old Marshall's that need to be pushed. I also just got a dirty fingers to try in the bridge of my lp custom and I hope it is similiar to the 500t. Previously had a sd custom custom.
