Saw that ride, Jeff. Good job!

I had a few PRs last night too. Went out on the MTB last night. Forgot to restart my GPS for the second lap, and that sucks, because I'm betting my 2nd lap was faster. Smacked a tree in a tech section with my left arm, and drew first blood for the season.

Road riding today after my lunch settles. quick 20 mile lap. Same one I always do at work, cornfields and churches.

That was a crazy looking loop, Loop. I was supposed to go for a ride at lunch today, but I didn't grab my bike. I figured my boss wasn't in for the week. I'll just go for a longer tear tomorrow.

It's a city park, minutes from my office, and house. Singletrack stuff. About 10 miles per loop if you do all the sections. Makes great use of ravines for climbs and drops, and it's super flowy. There's a few that we're skipping right now since the park is still drying out from all the recent rain. It's about 1000ft of elevation gain per lap (ride last night only showed 300ish since I left my Garmin at home, and used my phone which doesn't track elevation). We go there a lot. It's not awesome, but it's great to have close by.

In the summer, I try to get 5 rides in a week when I can, 3 road/2 mtb, or vice versa.

That would be a plenty quick ride. The bar end shifters are a little fucky, but I'm sure you could handle it.

I've contemplated getting a Brooks Cambium saddle, but they're pretty expensive.

I went for another quick ~40 minute tear last night. More PRs and sweat.

Just get your ass in the saddle, Ovid. Ride to the gym in the morning and see how it goes.

That is a nice ride. But I do agree about the Bar End Shifters. Why bother? STI is as good and ergonomic as it gets. You can't beat it.

Maybe they should put downtube shifter's on it.

Bar end shifters are where its at in the touring world. That's an actual feature.

I have no issue with STI, but bar ends separate the real touring bikes from the posers. (I'm totally being over the top here. )

SFM, that'd work except I go to straight from the gym to work and there 1) its too far and 2) there is literally no safe route to take from where I live to my gym to my work even if it didn't take too long.

Is it far from gym to work? If it's close to work, you could leave your car there. Ride to the gym, lift, shower, drive to work.

I need to man up and just ride the 32k (20mi.) to work. It will make for some major swass all day, but it would give me excuses to ride.

Its about 9 miles to the gym. Then 15 miles to work. The problem is I live on one side of the river. My gym, and work, are on the other, and even more importantly there is an interstate between the gym and work too. (Great for my car, not good for my bike.) The only bridge that's really bike safe to get across the river is 15 miles from my house and then another 8 from there to work all of which is through the city which has one bike path, but that would make it more like 15 miles as it goes to the completely other side of town.

Basically, because of the location of my house to where I work (even forgetting the gym) riding to work just isn't a legitimate option for me.

Which sucks cause a job I previously had was about 4 miles from where I lived and I only rode in about 10x in 4 years. I regret not doing it more now.

Great pics Loop! Some nice looking rides!

Well, I have some good news, and some bad news:

Good News: I was able to buy a 29er. It's this bike.

Bad News: Due to a severe storm last night, I am unable to actually ride this bike at my local single-track course.

Good News: I was able to localize the noise from my road bike to the back wheel. My local wrencher is going to contact Specialized on Tuesday, to see if my wheel can be replaced, under warranty.

Bad News: I can't ride my bike until I sort out the problem. If Specialized says no, I have to buy a new wheelset. Because I am, um, fat, I have to get a set for Clydesdales, or whatever patronizing term they use for fatties nowadays.

Worse News: I just took a new job. I don't have the money to buy $1500 bike wheels.

I had a lame ride yesterday. It looked so nice out, but as soon as I was ready and got out, it was windy as fuck and looked like there was a nasty storm rolling in, so it was only 11k. I finished up by riding in my basement, doing bodyweight and banded exercises.

Today, I was sore and wasn't sure how it was going to go, but I got in a pretty quick 46k. It started getting windy and cool just as I got back. I probably ate all the calories I burned though... Fuck, did that make me hungry.

That rockhopper is sharp looking! Can I ask how much it ran ya? I have no idea what actual trail worthy MTBs go for anymore.

Hope you don't have to buy new wheels man!

Got out for 36 miles this weekend (3x12) so that was something. Felt good. Reminded me why I love riding and that I need to do it more!

Some bad news:

My parents left Sunday to head out to Montana for the next leg of my Dad's trek across the US. He's ridden Maine to Wyoming so far in 3 stages and was going to be doing Montana to Wyoming this time around.

About 30 miles from home a deer decided to kamikaze their camper. They have an in-bed camper on their pickup and somehow it took out the two support legs of the camper without hitting the bed. Tore the camper up a bit, but hopefully it can be repaired.

My dad's bike however well, it was lucky and unlucky. Unlucky in that the rear wheel of his recumbent is totaled. I mean, just demolished. The leg of the camper just smashed through it.

However, it didn't appear to bend the frame or anything else, so hopefully just the wheel needs replaced. Its at the shop now. Still, it was a big bummer for them as they were looking forward to getting out of town for a few weeks.

Oh, unless you too want to join recumbent land, take care of your i-bands guys!

Ovid: Rockhopper Comp29s are $950. Lots of em on the floor at my LBS. Neat bike, forgiving geometry.

I went out on the MTB this weekend. wrecked twice haha. Scrapes all over my back. Sweet. Cut my arm up on some nettles in an overgrown section of trail...because springtime.

Went out on the motorcycle yesterday. Smacked my knee on the tank (custom chopper, weird design), when I was kickstarting it (yep, no electric start...super stripped). HUGE bruise on knee.

Tour De Cure this weekend. Leaving for Indy Friday.

Oooh, that's not a bad price at all.

Most of my memories of when I used to MTB are wrecking. I did it a lot. Not bad wrecks, but yeah, I ate dirt often. I just think its awesome you're cruising on that chopper. The bruised knee before a big ride is a bummer tho.

My plans to ride were thwarted yesterday by the rainstorm that rolled in right as I was pulling up to the house.

Ah well, today's another day and while its raining this morning its supposed clear up by this afternoon.

Short lunch ride up a hill not too far from work x4. It's super exhausting. 13.3km, 147m elevation and slopes of around 13% at the highest. Short, challenging hill. I'll go for 5 next week. I definitely need to lose at least 20lbs to be a proficient climber.
