Any of you guys seen Broadchurch yet? I'm thinking of checking it out, but the synopsis makes it appear to be a Twin Peaks meets X-Files kind of show.
I'm not even sure I could get used to seeing David Tennant (the Doctor) and Olivia Coleman (Sophie) as playing different characters.

I don't know either. I got bored with Dr. Who by the middle of the 4th series. Got pretty redundant.

We watched the first season of True Detective in the last week or so. I really liked it but man was it dark.

I'm on board with anything Guillermo Del Toro touches. This is no exception. Solid series. Looking forward to next season.

We watched it. It was very good, though I don't recall Twin Peaks or X-Files or any supernatural vibe(other than one clairvoyant character). Just a very solid police drama.
Rewatched Peaky Blinders pilot last night. While I was awake

I will echo that it does have potential. It's a lot easier to pay attention to the story when your eyelids are open

Someone earlier mentioned british (and most non-american shows) get down to business since they aren't doing 27 episode seasons. I think if they follow that formula with this show, it will be good. I will dig in a little more this weekend and see how it goes.

It is a solid series, though I don't really like the whole 6 foot vampire toungue(sp?) method of infection. Not sure if it is coming back for another season; but I will probably watch it again

Like I said before, it takes 2 or 3 episodes to really get involved with the characters and pick up full speed but once it starts it doesn't stop for the reason you said; a season is only 6 episodes. All i thought after one episode was "this has potential" but was in no rush to keep going. After a few episodes i couldn't stop and watched both seasons in a little over a week. Definitely one of my favorite shows out right now.

We finished up season 2 of House of Cards. Good lord there's a lot hanging out there in the periphery. LOVE what's going down with Doug and Rachel, and the fact the cracker/hacker wants to meet Stamper and Stamper is currently in unknown status. The main plot was telegraphed from way early in season one so no huge shock there, but all the little shit piling up around them really keeps it interesting. Can't wait for season three.
We also started Marco Polo. Netflix put out some statements saying they were directly trying to go after Game of Thrones with this one but I'm not really seeing it as THAT similar. I mean, we're on episode four and haven't even seen one floppy weiner yet. /Butters It's good, and there's TONS of hot far eastern babes roaming around naked. Great storylines. Marco's dad is a douche supreme. The Chancelor makes me wanna punch things. The Mongolian leader is shockingly likeable. All around a really good show. I wouldn't say it's a Game of Thrones killer, but it's pretty entertaining.

Someone was saying yesterday that Sam Neill's character is despicable; yet when he rolled into town; I was thinking I would probably want to clean that sh*thole myself and that his intentions were right on the money

Looking forward to Tom Hardy's appearance for sure.

Political shows for me are total yawn city; but I dig Kevin Spacey and I have heard nothing but good things about this show. I held out on Orange is the New Black and ended up loving that show and I am thinking this will be the same (in a non-lesbian-prison) sort of way

Sam Neil is incredible in this show. In the first episode, the way they show him riding into town it seems like he's going to be the hero... but man... he is a dark summabitch. His character is awesome as this progresses.

Yeah, Jive, I usually bore out on political dramas really quick. This one had me hooked by episode three and it just seems to keep getting better. It helps that they let a lot of side plots develop outside the main character. Oh, and Kevin Spacey plays this show like a fucking musician at the top of his game. Little side-bars to the camera and sometimes just a glance and a raised eyebrow when somebody else does something stupid. It honestly feels like he's having the time of his life making this show, whether he is or not.

^I need to add it to the que. The only thing is by the time I get around to it; it might be time for other shows to start. First world problems haha

I know Hannibal is starting back up as is Walking Dead and The Following. Don't have cable yet I am watching more TV than ever

I'll have to give the show a shot. I tried reading the first book and the premise was fun but the writing was just terrible.
And Dave, I've been meaning to start Fringe as well. Looked like a fun show.

Have you guys tried watching the fanmade youtube series of Nightwing? It has potential, but the main guy's acting kinda kills it for me. Watch it and you'll know what I mean.

I love that show mostly because of Walter. Every season is solid and even has a decent ending.

I'm midway through season 2. Just learning about Peter's first death

I've decided that most new stuff sucks so I've just finished rewatching twin peaks and now I have embarked on the annual watching of battlestar galactica.

Gotta disagree. TV now is better than ever imo. I am finding I have to be a lot more selective on my movie watching as the ratio of good to bad has gotten way out of hand in that realm.

Television quality started ramping back up when non-traditional networks and non TV "stations" started making shows that made even the main networks step up their game. AMC and HBO making some decent shit got the ball rolling, Netflix and HULU pushed more buttons and now there's good TV shows all over the place if you just hunt past the cop drama CSI/NCIS/WISH WE WERE HILL STREET BLUES bullshit brigade.
Movies are DEFINITELY in the decline at this point, but it's been proven they don't really need to make quality films. Michael Bay movies consistently rank as top grossing for the year of release worldwide. That's the target every other studio is aiming for. Poop sandwich.

Yes, but....
The quality is certainly better. But man, if you aren't into the type of shows they're doing, you're outta luck.
It seems the gritty "anti-hero" shows are fading a bit which is fine by me, but there just isn't much new out there that interests me in the slightest.
So I agree the quality is up, but if you're like me or Zozobra who aren't in the vast majority of liking what's being made, it sorta sucks.
There are a million options which does allow me to try and find something that interests me, but I also get overwhelmed with what do I want to give a shot.

Vikings is amazing, black sails is alright (worth it for hot lesbian pirate titties)
