This Godzilla was a flop. I expected a Legendary film to have great fx but this was weak. It reminded me of AVP requiem -most of the shots were so black and choppy it was like watching the flick while getting mugged in a dark alley! 4 out of 10 stars

its always a bit funny but also a bit sad to see such lofty expectations from the fanbois when they release images of the monster like a year in advance or more get hopelessly dashed when the movie theaters, and then watch it drift off into dvd obscurity in the following years. such is the hype machine. its why im refusing to get excited about star wars. just cant bring myself to it.
and just like the glowing amp reviews thread, when the movie is in theaters, of course it gets rave reviews from those predicting it to be awesome

months later, everyone is in agreement that its shit.
i still havent seen it.

I enjoyed Godzilla immensely but then I took it for what it was. In fact, I thought it was better than Pacific Rim mostly because it didn't aspire to anything greater than giant monsters kicking the shit out of each other. And that Godzilla scream!

I guess I'm confused what the Godzilla movie haters were expecting? Riveting plot? Great acting? Amazing direction? It was a giant monster movie, it succeeded at being a giant monster movie I thought. I mean, I didn't have many expectations except Godzilla kicking ass, which he did.

Character development, bro; character development
Actually; I dug it in theaters as that was really the only way you should see a Godzilla movie. I rented it with the intention of watching but so far, haven't even cared to do that. In my mind; I don't feel like the movie will hold much replay value. It is a solid monster flick but there are others in that genre that caught my attention more. It was much better than the last Godzilla film we got. Not that that is a very high bar to aspire to

I should also say that my Youngblood "Glowing Review" technique™ usually applies to movies moreso than gear.

Oh yeah, I mean, I'll probably NF it and it will be highly meh, it wasn't like it was a great film or anything, just Godzilla kicking ass on the big screen.
When was the last Godzilla film? Like 1970? And if you dare say that Matthew Broderick abortion bad things will happen to you.

Me and my friends went into it thinking "God, this will probably suck Godzilla doesn't even look like Godzilla."
Even that didn't prepare us for how awful it was going to be. lol

Seeing it in theaters as a 7 year old blew my socks off. Watching it again a couple years ago was nearly murder/suicide inducing

I was thinking the same thing, but you have a few years on me, so I don't feel as bad.

people like to separate godzilla movies into classics vs mathew broderick, and wanted, for some reason, a modern godzilla movie to fall into the first category. bitch all you want, it falls into the second

I got to see the new godzilla for free on the day it came out here in England. I went with a friend that is obsessed with Godzilla. I wasn't sure at the time if that was a good move - but I thought the film was great, and he loved the shit out of it. Just as well... or they'd be more complaining like there was with the last one!
...cool soundtrack though

The Great Gatsby 6.5/10
I resisted this for a long time as it's a favorite novel of mine, but there was nothing else on and my wife has been after me for a while to watch it. (side note-why can't women just watch the movies they want to watch and not wait until you have absolutely nothing better to do than watch them too?)
It was better than I thought it would be....certainly a beautiful movie. The themes are there although they gave Daisy a lot more depth than I ever thought she possessed. There are also an unavoidable amount of Jay-Z and Beyoncé songs present, weirdly enough. I don't really think it works as a film and I never have, but it wasn't terrible. I liked it better than the Redford version. YMMV.

Sinister 6/10
Not bad, but it could have been better. Still, very watchable and it had a story, which are two things a lot of horror/thriller movies don't offer. Basic summary: Crime writer stumbles upon super 8 home movies which are apparently a series of murders. Research ensues, revelations are made and harrowing conclusions are drawn. I definitely classify this as a suspense or thriller, not horror, though.

X-Men DOFP 9/10
Best X-Movie yet. Dug it and James MacAvoy did really well as a young Professor X. He's coming along as an actor.
