Sometimes, I wonder if your "fun" gene is broken. :cop:

nah, im not opposed to it, but knowing nothing about it, you have to admit a racoon seems a bit silly, especially for someone who, at last reading which was admittedly when i was a kid, thought comics were mostly about blowing shit up and killing bad guys and/or giant robots.--without knowing the raccoon kicks ass...just simply seeing flashes of a raccoon jumping around. you gotta admit....

i just never followed the avengers/ guardians stuff. am curious about it, not saying its bad. just weird for the uninitiated. its obviously not terrible, i haven't heard nary a negative things about it

The previews for that actually piss me off. That whole "10% of the brain" thing is such a silly old wives tale and everyone knows it. It's like basing an entire movie around the notion of "if you keep making faces it will get stuck like that".

exactly. and thats before the "if you could use more, you basically become god" premise.

and how does that make for a good story? oh, she's god now. lets throw 8000000 henchmen at her. maybe one will be able to take her down.

i liked the matrix and all, but some of the derivative stuff that has come out since really pisses me off.

Superheros in general are stupid. I don't find a raccoon kicking ass any more dumb than an invincible alien deciding to save the people of earth! Much less dumb actually! :cop:

I'm just giving ya crap.

I'll see Lucy when it makes it to Netflix for SJ alone. It looks like it could be a fun action movie as long as it doesn't drop too deeply into the "why" behind everything. *Knows its going to spend half the movie on the why and I'll hate it* I agree with you and Shane that basing what appears to be a large part of your plot on a completely debunked myth and then making that line appear in every preview probably isn't the smartest thing ever.

yeah all superhero movies are pretty dumb when looked at a certain way. i want to scope GotG out.

especially after those bombastic star wars claims above.... because if the trailer is any indication, i'll physically fight motherfuckers to prevent star wars from becoming that, not to say it wouldnt be fun for this movie in particular.

When I was buying my tickets last night there were a shitload of teenage girls buying tickets for Lucy, so I guess they're going for that Hunger Games demographic :idk: Didn't really get that sense from the marketing but that seemed to be the case.Certainly nothing I need to see (unless someone tells me that there's Scarlet Johanson toplessness in it, then it definitely is... for story reasons...)

The key to making a good superhero movie is to take it way too seriously and choke the life out of it with attempted "realism"

Oh wait, that's actually an awful idea. Pretty sure the raccoon and the tree that says 4 words had more personality than everyone in Man of Steel combined.

Yup. Dammit, my friends are going to see GotG this afternoon and I wanna go but no, we invited my parents and grandparents over for lunch.

I suppose I could just not be there.....

superman was never the poster boy for personality though. come to think of it, the DC universe always seemed pretty straightlipped.

2 movies this weekend -

The good:

Lego Movie 7/10 - really creative and cool movie. Feel good kind of stuff as well in a not so regular way.

The bad:

Noah 3/10

The best scene in the move was at the end. Russell Crowe really nailed the drunk/nude Noah parts post flood. Actually the best and most well executed part of the movie. I can't believe I made it through to the end...

Otherwise not only was shitty, it was boring AND shitty. Not a great script, conceptually went a bit too far, etc, etc.

Rocks that give you fire aside - next time if you are going for fantastic more Methuselah kicking ass (WITH A FLAMING SWORD :rawk: ) and less Noah brooding bullshit and more drinking and fighting.

Also wondering how many species Tubal-cain wiped out snacking on the ark (with a compound fracture no less). Whatever

This was the twist I intentionally left out of my review. The way a motherfucker just hopes up and jumps/climbs all over the ark with a broken leg, AND manages to break his way through hanging on the side, is pretty fucking special. Not to mention the mowing down species bit.

And yeah, drunk, naked, belligerantly stupid Noah was the cake-topper. Still don't get how picking grapes leads to instant wine, but WTF do I know?

Trance - I really don't know how to rate this movie, it entertained me, I guess, but it was pretty weird (not necessarily in a good way) and they made the plot super convoluted...

Wachted the Tom Hardy movie Locke last night. The entire movie takes place while he's driving and the other actors are voices only. But its surprisingly entertaining. Equal parts funny and sad. Definitely worth watching but be prepared for a dialogue movie and zero action. Its directed by the guy who did Eastern Promises, which is also a killer film.

Hmmm interesting. Liked Eastern Promises big time. The steam bath fight scene still gives me nightmares though.

Actually, Eastern Promises (and History of Violence; which is completely f**king awesome) is a Cronenberg flick. IMDB edit: director for Locke wrote EP screenplay. Sweet. Will definitely check it out as I always dig Tom Hardy.

Black Rock 1/10
Doing the usual Netflix routine of "is this going to suck" roulette. I was wanting mind numbing terror/thriller/horror. The mind numbing portion was correct. Kind of a I Spit on your Grave if it were re-imagined as a drama. :crap:

Figured out that what I wanted was something low brow and vicious. Wrong Turn. The first one, not the string of horrific sequels. If you love horror and you have somehow missed it; do yourself a favor. Backwoods cannibal splatterfest that is actually really good. Suspenseful and actually very satisfying for a completely unoriginal concept. Great flick that scratches that itch, if you so desire.

The Wrong Turn sequels were some of the worst horror flicks ever. I still don't understand how they took the basic concept of the first one and turned it into . . . whatever the hell you wanna call the sequels. Bleh.
