woah, NFA. i aint got nothing against you. at all. just BEING ANNOYING for the dissenting opinion on this film alone, you have great taste in everything i've seen on this forum. one of my favorite dudes actually. what i meant was, as feverishly as we were debating this movie (mostly in jest), your review is not the strongest thing i am going to go by, having not seen it myself, just out of bias, you know? dont go opether on me.

what i really think: your review is spot on to what you actually felt, and hopefully i'll have the same one.

cheers dude

I'm going to see it tomorrow night. Its also sad how if a "big" movie doesn't make like 50 mil opening weekend, it "didn't succeed." I understand, that's the point when a movie typically brings in the most at once, but its still got a couple weeks of exposure to bring in more. :idk:

It also amazes me there are that many people that wanted to see Grown Ups 2. I'm accepting it. Hollywood produces shit because people will pay to see shit.

Fuck people.

Honestly, I hadn't even heard of it until a month-ish ago when I saw the trailer before Man of Steel  I haven't exactly noticed a marketing blitz for it either.

I went with my wife and son yesterday to the matinee showing in 3D. I normally don't do 3D, but this seemed like the film to do it if any. I am not a big anime geek, but I am old enough where I loved the original Godzilla/Ultraman movies as well as some early anime stuff (Voltron, etc.) This film definitely tapped into that vein. The action scenes (of which there were many) were very smooth and understandable as opposed to the choppy-yet too-fast cgi abortions known as Transformers. I feel like Del Toro has a much better grasp on integrating cgi and live action than many directors. Zack Snyder being a prime example. I thought they developed the story as much as they needed to without getting exposition heavy and detracting from the flow of the film. They could maybe have trimmed down the running time a bit, but I am sure not at what cost. That suggestion is really me over-analyzing, to be honest. If you dig sci-fi and monster movies; you will definitely dig Pacific Rim. F*ck Grown-Ups2.

which is sad, because i dig them both normally. but up in this thread, they are less fans of protest than our state legislature. its not like i put 3 pages of "nah bro, sucks" responses to all of the pros for the movie. if anything, it was the other way around. "nah bro, monsters and robots and shit brah"

anyway, so the consensus so far is that its awesome and tasteful and avoids most of the pitfalls i was expecting it to plunk into. thats a good thing.

Ya know, it's gonna go on no matter what's said here, but my problems with YB stem from being "creepy porn dude" to a guy talking about chugging gay cock for years to get access to JH's butthole.

I really don't give a fuck about his opinion on a movie he hasn't seen yet. And that's the last I'm addressing this pissing contest of stupidity.

you watch legit porn. the whole thing, plot and all. thats weird as fuck to me, but its america, i aint gonna stop you dude. and i have heard that male porn stars frequently have to paly the gay circuit in order to star in straight films. i don't know how true that is. you are the only person i know who watches porn for longer than a few pumps. thus, you are my local expert.

i dont think ive ever had someone on a forum so butthurt at me. feels weird.

Not in the slightest.

edit: I'm far more enraged you thought Transformers were viable as giant robot movies. Or hell, entertainment at all. :cop:

well as a huge fan of Japanese giant monster films of course I had to see this. loved it. have the knifehead monster toy and hope they do the other kaiju as well. robots meh. a few wtf were they thinking moments. a wall really....really. also why the hell don't the Jaugers break out with the heavy duty weapons immediately. sure the fist fight stuff was cool to watch but from a strategic and tactical standpoint kinda dumb. wished there had been some daylight scenes without the constant rain. Asylum has already put out a knockoff film (Attack From Beneath) which is kinda fun. thinking that PR will do much better internationally.

He had some killer lines. I couldn't stop laughing at certain points.

I absolutely loved the movie. Without giving anything away, one of the only complaints I had was how little I cared about certain pilots earlier on. Minor nitpick though.

Wow, it was everything I was hoping a giant robot vs. giant monster movie could be! Perfect? No. Fun as hell? YES!!!!

Seriously, I loved this movie. There's the right amount of comic relief, the right amount of one liners. The right amount of action, where you can actually see wtf is going on....

All the stuff I want out of a big budget CGI action movie. I might have to go see it again.

So I re-watched Cameron's Alien film (director's cut) last night. I watched it back in the day, but like most director's cut/alternate version situations, I am too old to remember whether I watched the theatrical release or the extended release. Either way, it was as awesome as I remembered it to be. My only complaints would be that Paul Reiser's death (nice hairdo) should have had way more screen time. That and Newt had probably the most irritating scream I have ever heard. In short, it made me wish Cameron would go genre-slumming again and get his hands dirty instead of pandering to the world with mass appeal hollywood crap

holy shit balls!!! that was excellent.. probably one of the best 3D movies I've ever seen, the CGI was INSANE, the fights were great... sure it was cheesy and predictable in some parts but you expect that from this genre.... in short... this movie delivers!

THIS.

Plus I saw Pacific Rim in Imax 3d today. :wow:
Best use of 3d I have seen. TBH I don't see many movies in 3d because I have to wear glasses OVER my glasses and that sucks. But it was worth it! How is this not the massive blockbuster of the summer?!?!? Grown Ups 2? Seriously? I know people are stupid but wow...

I know right?

How much promotion did it get? I don't watch TV, so I don't know how heavily it was promoted, but this should be the blockbuster of the summer (after Despicable Me 2 cause lets be honest, nothing was going to touch that).

Ah well, it was awesome. Glad you liked it!

Loved how 'real' all of the gear looked. Like a WWII battleship or something. Also loved the look of the monsters.

Yup. Best use of CGI I've seen in a long time. It all had a nice worn and weathered look to it. The monsters were so badass.

I loved the "Wall of Life." Only politicians, greedy businessmen, and morons could have come up with that idea. It was great how it was portrayed.
