So between my earlier post saying I would get the vaccine when available I was given the opportunity for the J&J shot on Friday. So I took it!

A few minor side effects sore arm but not nearly as bad as some made it out to be. Felt a little fatigued and a minor headache but nothing that hindered my plans for the next day (changing my brake pads and going to my sisters for a crawfish boil). My wife had it a little worse than me but still not put completely on her ass.

Sunday I felt pretty lousy.....maybe that was all the beer and crawfish though

Good as new today!

My 87 year old father got his second Moderna shot yesterday. Aside from a sore arm, he feels fine.

I see a few people saying they had a headache after the vaccine. In 5 days time i will have had a constant headache for an entire year, I'm hoping the jab might have the opposite effect (but probably won't).

it will be interesting to see (and hopefully good for you) how the vaccine reacts with someone experiencing that.

Cheers guys, it's no biggie, just irritating, everything else is back to normal (apart a few weeks in November where some of the symptoms reappeared). Will report after jabbing.

So I'm on pause . I can get it now but I'm just not sure so I'm on pause . I would most likely not have any issues but who knows with my autoimmune disease that currently does not affect my life perhaps I could wake that up . It's a fear folks with my condition have and there have been almost no case studies on anyone who has it and who has gotten their shot . Also big possibility we got the C early last year which we survived just fine . So..... I don't know what to do , so I'll do nothing at the moment .

they have only just started getting them here in the island..... first responders have all been given, they are waiting for another shipment to get here to start rolling out to the public..... by time it's my turn to get it it's gonna be long enough if there are any adverse reactions I'll know lol.... plus i'm sure international travel will likely require the vaccine be taken so I'm going to need it for work

I don't doubt the possibility but, honestly, has anyone heard negative information about the vaccines in the free world from questionable (potentially Russian) sources? Maybe I'm naïve, but I doubt that even the (GASP) "Mainstream Media" would cite those types of sources...

There is definitely a weird political game being played in Europe surrounding the AZ vaccine. First the EU tried to enforce an unenforceable contract against AZ to force them to provide doses to the EU in priority over the UK, now a few member states are claiming there is an issue with it, which a cynical person would be forgiven for thinking is a deflection to talk around the fact that they don't really have anywhere near enough of it to be distributing anyway. Also it's not like there hasn't been cases of clots after the Pfizer vaccine has been administered either...

I've seen it in my social media feeds too.

This is NOT to say any of it is Russian propaganda because I have no idea. I'm just bringing it up because its so crazy during this time when we'd really love to know the truth on something that is hard, unprecedented, and important that in addition to honest actors that may be disagreeing we've also got dishonest actors attempting to further muddy the waters.

That was the point - I was questioning the assertion that Russia was trying to sway opinion in order to profit from their vaccine. I haven't seen anything that would make me think that, but who knows? I agree - if any current topic deserved accuracy and transparency, the efficacy of vaccines has to be near the top of the list. Which is why groups with an agenda will try desperately to conceal and twist information...

That information came from Mike Baker who is a former CIA guy. You run down the rabbit hole of who to trust with any of that pretty quickly. Because even if you decide Mike is trustworthy is his source trustworthy?

Thats the thing with disinformation, the goal isn't even necessarily to get you to believe something but to have general disbelief and distrust more broadly. Its frustrating as individuals we have to try to wade through all this insanity.

The last couple of Dan Carlin common sense podcasts broached the issue that is the quagmire of shit which we have to wade through to get information. Worth a listen in podcasts are your thing.

My kid's dance teacher sister in law was young and healthy, got the shot, and landed gravely ill in the hospital. It looked real bad at first, but is doing better now. Not sure what is up with that, but considering I have an auto immune issue I'm going to wait and see how this goes before jumping into any line. I definitely don't want that current local batch

What does your doctor recommend that you do?

I don't care what they recommend . I have to figure this out myself . When I was going through figuring out what my condition was many years ago now it was I who did the work . My original Dr. totally dismissed my thoughts and was about to send me home until I demanded a scan . He also like many Dr.s drank on the job . So... this is up to me and the research of a few in the specific field of my disease . I'm very lucky in that it doesn't bother me at all . I don't need meds or anything . So kinda thinking to hang back for now . Also I swear I had it . I'd put money on it . We had something early , before covid was a thing then it exploded soon after . I'm not saying not to get the vaccine , I'm not nutty about it in anyway really , I want to get it but just getting cold feet and perhaps for good reason . I can wait .

I'm of the same opinion that I'm not "nutty" about it and am likely to eventually get it but I'm in no rush and would like to wait for more testing and studies. It's a perfectly reasonable position to hold. I also don't have any of the co-morbidity factors so priority wise I'll kindly see myself to the back of the line.

But I don't knock anyone who wants it and congratulate them when they announce that they got theirs. I don't knock people who don't want it especially when the messaging in the media is pitiful and counterproductive. I can't blame someone who thinks, "Fauci says even when I get the vaccine I still have to wear masks and distance and should continue isolating so why would I bother?" because even if what he says has some true nuance to consider it's the STUPIDEST message to broadcast and only hurts the vaccine rollout.

What I am nutty about is a whole bunch of other things I've harped on since about two months in to this whole thing. Plus a whole set of other politically related implications that we don't discuss at the dinner table here.

It won’t hurt to weigh your options for a little bit. I’d still talk to a doctor just to see if there’s a specific vaccine they recommend vs others for the type of affliction you have. Anyone who’s already immunocompromised I highly recommend talking it over and deciding which one, if any, will be the best choice.

so I was just reading this morning that one of the local dispensaries is giving away free edibles to anyone who brings in their vaccine card with at least one dose. Trying to decide if it's worth the drive, that closest one to me is 20 miles away.
