the host (bong joon-ho one). 8/10 - production values a bit under hollywood fare, but characters, story and ending were also not standard hollywood, which was refreshing. there were also a number of really striking camera shots.

followed up with bong joon-ho's current movie - snow piercer - 7/10, quite slow at the beginning but it picks up with some good set pieces and some brutal claustrophobic action shots. tilda swinton has a memorable character. non hollywood ending.

dredd - 6/10 brutal in your face gun play. that's the whole movie. some stunning visuals, but the director was smart to keep it relatively short.

world war z - 5/10. noticed pitt's acting . this movie didnt do much for me. it was OK but seemed predicable and mainstream.

The Host is awesome! Love it. I keep hearing about Snowpiercer but I am too lazy to investigate further :) Is it out on video yet, I assume?

6/10

He apologized for lens flare on the first one and promised he'd do better from here on out. Sadly, having watched the movies back-to-back, he really did tone it down a LOT in Into Darkness. Him and Michael Bay need to team up. Closeup action shots of lens flare constantly interrupted with explosions.

really? been a while since i watched the first one but damn...there were parts where the lights source wasnt even on fucking screen and the flaring was obstructing the view. ridiculous. if thats toning it down, star wars is fucked.

Blame Andrew Kramer for those flairs. Only motion graphics nerds like me will understand, but it's actually true.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - 3/10

Terrible. I enjoyed the first one quite a bit and I was looking forward to the sequel. An hour and twenty minutes in, nothing had happened and then they finally started with the actual fighting. In this one the combat just felt blah; redundant and boring compared to the first. I wanted to turn it off earlier, but I kept saying to myself that it would have to get better soon. Really just a way overhyped below average movie in my opinion.

awww 2nd one was way better as i remember. but i think you hit on the difference between our views of it...
i wanted more of the backstory, less of the fighting. i wanted to see what the districts ere like, how they got to this, flashbacks to the uprising, etc.

because i would just watch battle royale if i wanted the scripted combat candidate plot by itself.

Hunger Games: Cause you can't let 13 year olds read Battle Royale in school.

Believe me, I would be very interested in learning more about the history and districts, but it didn't elaborate on anything interesting. Backstory and character development are very important; however, all I got out of the sequel was how the girl was torn between her love and what others wanted her to do for appearances and that the president wanted her, a symbol of rebellion, dead. So basically, they repeated the themes of the first movie for an hour and a half. I didn't watch it for action, I can put on Commando or Rambo if I want that. I wanted to see some interesting backstory, but there was nothing that intrigued me.

I guess what put me off the most was how little they achieved in an hour and a half. Develop something, don't just give me a shallow rehashing of the first movie while not sharing anything new.

Lego Movie- Awesome/Awesome

I admit, when I saw the previews for this, I was skeptical. More than skeptical, I was downright down on it.

MAN WAS I WRONG!

If you've ever enjoyed playing with legos, and you like awesome. You'll enjoy this movie.

I know I'll get hate for reading them...but the books do a much better job with developing backstory.

I really don't like that they're splitting the 3rd book into 2 movies though.

Watched this on an airplane today and I completely agree. It was a lot of fun and really well done.

Also watched Snowpiercer which some others on here already mentioned. Cool movie, a little heavy handed at times, but a little different. I was worried it would get slow or drag but it kept me interested the whole time. Worth watching for sure.

Bachelorette 4/10 - First of... the concept isn't too bad... it could have been really OTT, which I was kind of expecting... Kirsten Dunst isn't exactly the most attractive actress in the world (certainly not the greatest...), but the other two supporting her were rather sexy. It had its moments, but was overall crap. Not even chick-flick worthy.

Hunger Games? Yea, the first book came out in 2008. I don't know when the others did. My lady got me into them 2-3 years ago.

Movies follow the books fairly closely, minus the fact that they're based on her thoughts mostly which are hard to convey on screen (obviously).

GI Joe, the second one.

Awful, but sweet explosions. Couldn't tell you the plot as I couldn't be bothered to pay attention. Excellent background noise for guitar maintenance.

4/10

Horrible movie, but having Dwayne Johnson and Channing Tatum playing video games together is like hetero bro-porn.

I did get a broner during that scene.

In all seriousness though, the effects and gun porn were solid.

I don't think so. The number of people I heard about walking when it was in theaters says you weren't on teh crazies. Dad said the theater he saw it in was basically full when it started, and by the time the lights came back up there were only about ten people left. Hence, my fears.

Wow, I hadn't heard of anyone else walking out. Amy I left with about 25 minutes left. However I didn't see anyone else leave besides us, so I thought maybe we were just elitist bastards.
