Ok, so every one I've tried to use I am being told is too big. I would like to have an avatar here at our newly found home. How can I change the pixel size of the pic to use it as an avatar?

Save it, open it in MS Paint, use the resize function... at least that's what I did... just make sure it's less than 200X200 pixels
