So tell me more about the Engl Blackmore, plox....

Post by NaturalBornBoy »

Does it have that typical compressed Engl tone?

Does the shared EQ play nice on both channels?

its one of the best sounding engl i ever played or owned and i had a bunch of them, its more open sounding and not as processed as the other engls.
it has nice cleans and decent mid gain tones, good lead amp and has nice mids. its a nice amp and a decent deal at used prices.

I never used the loops, i cant help ya with that.

The amp has 4 ch but shared eq and really seems like a 2 ch amp with some features mixed in, because of the shared eq your gonna be limited in tweeking certain things.

Yeah if I do get it, Tom, I'll basically just use it as a 2-channel amp. Now I just need to find out if the fx loop in series mode is any good.

If I do get one, it'll be new from Thomann. I can't buy from the US due to voltage diferences.

Dude, you can get it a little cheaper here :)

http://www.4sound.dk/shop/guitar-toppe/ ... kmore.html

You can probably translate most of the page with Google translate, but if there's something you need help with, lemme know.

I think they are running a sale on them right now, they used to cost more or less the same as @ Thomann :)

Thanks for the heads up, man!

I'm not ready to buy just yet though. Just doing my research first.

No problem :) I've shopped from them several times, and have always been happy. They're good folk.
From what I've read, the Engl 530 preamp supposedly is kinda similar to the Blackmore. I run one through the fx loop of a Laney LH50, and it sounds massive with a 1x12 cab. I can only imagine that it would sound gigantic with my 4x12, but I live in a small apartment, so I can't really enjoy it right now. Could be something to consider. I'm VERY happy with the 530 :)

I liked the Blackmore. Better than the other Engls I had (thunder, sovereign, powerball, etc). The blackmore is more Marshally but still is an Engl. To be honest, there is always a better bang for your buck out there than any Engl.

I have both the 530 preamp and the blackmore. the 530 CAN sound very similar to the blackmore but the blackmore doesn't have as much gain. it sounds a bit fuller to my ears though. also, the poweramp section of the blackmore is massive! I love the blackmore, really a great amp. oh, and the fx-loop works great. I've had other amps before that had loops that were real tone suckers. the blackmore's loop doesn't steal from your tone. plus, it's adjustable in terms of parallel/series.
if your looking for the typical compressed ENGL tone of the fireball/powerball, go look somewhere else. if you like the engl feel but like your tone a little more open and defined, the blackmore is the right amp for you.

nevertheless I am selling it since i don't play in a band anymore and I don't really need a 100 watts beast.
if you're interested in buying mine just tell me. I have the european version since I live in Germany...

You ever tried the Thunder, NBB? That's a cool amp, especially with a good tube swap :D

Haven't played a Blackmore, myself.

What would you suggest that would fit my requirements?

2-channel
Preferably 2 EQ but not an absolute must as long as the channels play nicely together
I want a Marshall-ish tone
Must run on 230v
I'm gonna be buying from Thomann or any other EU online retailer so bear in mind that over there, Engl is not too expensive.

I heard a guy in a cover band play one with a tele, and the tones where some of the best I have ever heard. I was blown away infact as I am not a fan of the high gain models.
