SRV made the record special , IIRC he told Bowie to stuff it when he wouldn't let SRV open for the tour .

Well, it went from SRV&DT were going to be allowed to open, then they weren't, then Bowie's management tried to gag SRV and not even allow him to mention in interviews that he had his own band, at which point Stevie walked. It sounds as though they were trying to get him to drop the whole solo gig thing and become Bowie's permanent sideman.
