I've been trying to save for Yamaha HS8's but, I keep blowing my money on pedals.
They have a 38Hz - 30kHz frequency response... can't beat that with many 8" monitors.
If you want active monitors, I'd recommend saving up another $150 for them.

I'll second the Yamaha HS8s. I landed on them after testing some different models out.

If you get them from rmcaudiodirect.com you can save some cash...they go for $300/each, free shipping, no tax.

Not sure if it shows if you're not a members...but here's the link. http://www.rmcaudiodirect.com/yamaha-hs ... o-monitor/

If you don't mind used, you can find some Mackie HR824's in that price range.
