I have a used pickup I traded for recently. It is a stacked coil humbucker that fits in the neck of a Fender Jazz bass, one of the N3 noiseless types. Due to some rough handling the external lead cracked off from the base plate. I resoldered that with no difficulty but the pickup metered as ‘open’ so I knew there was a break somwhere.
It appears that the free ends of the coil winding make a few wraps around the axis of the bobbin baseplate and then each end goes to its respective terminal. I found one free end hanging in the air and was just able to tack solder it onto the terminal from above.
Now the pickup reads complete, but resistance is WAY high, about 12.5K ! Normal reading for this should be 8k ohms. Output sounds normal in tone, but quite weak in volume.
Does anyone know if this pickup is supposed to have the coils in series or parallel ? I may just ditch it if I can’t get it working right, but I’d prefer to hear it working properly in the bass.
Any ideas ?

Re: Broken pickup winding
Can you post a (hopefully non-blurry) picture of what you mean? You might have reverse polarised that pickup. No sure if the stacked coils have differing impedances, but the result of 8k vs 12.5k seems odd.. Or it could also be that one coil would be 22k and the other would be 12.5k and you shorted the 22k coil.
Just throwing stuff out there, might be off.
