EZdrummer2 Is Really Wicked Awesome

Post by TurboPablo »

I've been kind of prodding myself to start learning my way around MIDI Drum Maps. But this morning, while sipping on my Cafe' con Leche, I started messing around with the Tap2Find function and lo and behold, it's a automated MIDI Map writer. Just hit the kick, snare, Hi Hat, whatever where you want them and the program places it and quantitizes' it. I took one beat to the point where it wouldn't let me add anything else to the row.

Made it sound like I was drumming with fourteen arms and seven legs.

The drums in my life just got very very easy.

It's wicked awesome and bast eva.

Anyone who may be hesitant, should bite the bullet and grab it(looking at you Broslinga).

I was trying to explain that Tap2Find feature that brings up the drumset to my bass player. It's almost like you're telling the drummer that I want a bit more on the toms or more crash, and he (it) just incorporates it in a way that makes sense to him (it), rather than trying to force the drummer into something that probably doesn't work (ie: whatthefukdoiknow?). Awesome collaboration, and I still don't have to know much about drums to get something that works.

I just gotta figure out how to turn that into a song structure - next on my learning list.

Glad it's working for ya

Just drag it into the songwriter function and cut/copy/paste it where you want it.

It's super easy.

Is this a feature in the original EZ? I have had that software for ages but just never did anything with as it has been too much of pain to ever get into a workflow with things. Drag and drop loops are a godsend.

Yeah, the tap thing is a EZ2 feature.

Can't wait to get my hands on it. :)

INteresting. When I get my PC moved down to the jam room; I will probably dig in a bit more than I have. In the past 8-wtf-ever years since I have owned the original software

Quick example of how easy the Tap2Find function is. The only parts I grabbed out of the library were the fills at the 33 second mark. Otherwise it was all me playing with the kit.

I don't feel like this is worthy of a drumjam. Just a example of the particular function within the program.

If I hadn't already committed to SSD4 platinum I would try EZD2.

But for real, the Steven Slate digital plugins for mixing and mastering are seriously good sounding and I highly recommend them.

I have heard great things about Slate stuff; I just don't have the money (or desire to pirate software) to justify switching platforms when I can't even do anything with the software I do own

Slate Digital is starting a "subscribe to own" service this year. It will be $20 a month to use everything (but Slate Digital is a separate LLC than Steven Slate Drums, so no drum stuff), and for every 12 months you're subscribed, you get $200 of in-store credit (and most Slate plugins are $200), so that basically works out to paying $17 a month to 'finance' the plugin you end up choosing to buy and an additional $3 a month for access to all the other ones. Pretty fucking awesome in my book.

I said no drum stuff. :cop: Slate Digital and Steven Slate Drums are two different companies and they keep the product lines separate.

Which doesn't bother me. I've been perpetually disappointed with the Steven Slate Drum stuff I have (and have heard). But have been blown away by the Slate Digital plugins.

I just brought it up because Mike mentioned the mixing plugins.

This subscribe to own service sounds awesome. I've really wanted to try a lot of their plugins, but have zero desire to use their drum software so this could be just the ticket. If I don't dig, I'm out the cost of the months I subscribe. Seems like the way to go to me.

Oh yeah and the subscription of course includes future plugins too, not just the current selection.

There's more info in this gigantic ass thread, but here's the post where Steven confirmed the subscribe-to-own thing: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/10754863-post676.html

Have you guys grabbed any expansion packs? If so, which ones are you digging? I have the Pop/Rock and Drumkit From Hell that I am using with EZD2, but some of those metal expansions sound awesome for EZD2... Specifically the Made of Metal and Metal Machine expansion.

I haven't. I'm happy with what's in the EZD2 package. Most all of my drum needs are simple anyway.

I don't know shit about midi, or recording in general. I stumbled through making a clip for one of the drum jams. Would I be able to get ezdrummer to work for me?

Those are the 2 I'll be getting when I finally make the order. My demo ran out and I promised myself I'd wait for a good sale. The last few clips I did were all SSD so Im still in good shape. I'm being more judicious with my monies. Just ordered the Kemper Remote. Fookin' spendy!

I don't necessarily need those expansions, but I thought they sounded pretty damn good! I actually found a free drum VSTi that sounds pretty damn good! It is called MT Power Drummer, not bad at all!
