I think I already need a bigger interface

  So, I would like to have more than 2 inputs. WTF was I thinking?

I want more mics running at once.

Maybe try putting a little mixer in front of the interface? You won't have the same tweakability as more dedicated inputs, but you'll be able to use more mics

That's a really good idea for the moment :thu: I have a little yamaha mixer, and the preamps don't sound horrible.

I plan on doing the same thing with a little Behringer mixer I have if my drummer ever quits fucking around and buys a set of drum mics

It will be a definite compromise using this method to record drums, but at least it will work

Have done this...and will be temporarily doing this until I sell my Fast Track and get something with 8 inputs. :thu:

yeah.. i'm a little too used to boards. i get by with 8, but i could really use 16. of course i can't afford to load UP 16, and i'd need another snake.. so shit gets exponentially more expensive. so i live with 8.

but yeah. 8 is helpful. if it was just me, i'd just 4 minimum.. but seriously.. mic'ing one instrument more than twice is getting a little unwieldy..

honestly gene-- 8 would probably be great 'cause you can get a minimal drum setup, a bass, and a guitar in with 8. but if you're just working on your own... you're letting gas creep in.. resist.. make records. this rabbit hole is heinous expensive and makes pedal fetishes seem like fucking amateur hour financially.

What interface do you have? If you have S/PDIF (2 channels) or ADAT (4 channels at 96 KHz, 8 at 44 KHz) inputs, you can expand with preamps that have digital outputs.

Edit: I think I remember you having the 2i2. Yeah, quite a limited interface unfortunately.
