Quick Shoot Out between 2 Drum Programs

Post by JerEvil »

You know the ones. Tried to find similar sounding kits in each program. These are just playing a tom and standard beat I edited quickly.

Which sounds better?

I just listened with my phone up to my ear. I can hear a difference, but the phone is doing no justice.

Will listen on the Mackies when I get home.

Drums much bigger on #2 - not sure about symbols, though.

I kinda like the purity & definition of the 1st part better. 2nd part sounds more compressed, which CAN be fine sometimes.

Yeah I agree.

Ok well I'll do the "big fuckin' reveal" in the morning. See if any more feedback comes in.

Oh, kit 2 sounds like stuff I have heard in EZD2. Sounds more ambient and roomy. Kit sounds great until the double bass comes in. Then it sort of just dries out.

I probably just shot a hole in EZD2.

I think a cross between the two would be best. :cop:

1 has more punch because the transients are bigger, but it lacks ambience for my taste. 2 has a great big vibey room sound but not much punch, almost like the close mics are too low.

So, which do you guys like better, closed-in / tighter (slate), or the bigger / ambient-sounding EZD2?

And, can't the room ambience be adjusted in EZD2? I think there's a mixer that'll let you do that - might make them tighter sounding.

I don't know that one is better than the other. I'll say they would probably both have their place depending on user preference.

Personally, I like big, open, crushing, roomy sounds. So I'd lean towards the EZD2 kit. But I can definitely see where the tighter sounding kit would work too.

If you haven't scrolled through the kits in EZD2, there are a couple of tighter kits closer to what that Slate kit is.

No but I have 9 more days. I think the midi libraries and tap beat is worth it. I think it combined with SSD might be a chocolate + peanut butter situation.
