burr from MN

Post by feintguitarist »

Hello everyone,

... not even going to lie, I'm about to ramble.

I guess I'm new here. I don't really recognize anyone. I saw Telephant's name in a thread..and although I don't know him I do remember him from another board. I also know a gentleman that I did some dealings with on RT is here because he's the one that told me about the place. At one point in my life I was on HCAF, then RT, and then nowhere. I don't think I've been on the boards much in the past 6 years or so. Was mainly on RT, with a brief stint on HCAF before that.

I'm not looking for pity, but I figure I'll give a quick gear run down while I'm here. My main guitar is currently an Ibanez AEF-30 acoustic that I've owned for about 10 years. I feel it sounds decent when tuned down a full step, otherwise it's too bright for my ears. I also have a cheap Yamaha dread... don't know what model, but it's not important. Most importantly I have a 1996 Epiphone '67 Flying V. Apparently it was made in Samick's Korean plant. I'd upgraded it at one point with a TonePro's bridge and tail, Grover tuners, and an EMG 85/60 combo. However, it currently has the original hardware, and no pickups. I've got a DiMarzio Tone Zone that I'll be putting in it soon. I bought the Tone Zone on RT in 2011 to put in the V, but never installed it. I'll be looking for an Air Norton for the neck. Then I'll be on the hunt for a small practice amp... or a Line 6 POD or similar. I know most people hate them, but I liked the Pod XT bean I had wayyyy back. I'd like to pick up a Pod XT Live - or a Pod HD500X to get something a bit newer. I'm in a townhouse so nothing loud unfortunately.

Past gear... Fender Strat (MIM), Ibanez Prestige S2075 (MIK), Fender Tele (MIJ), Johnson acoustic (IDK), Fender Frontman 25R, Crate GFX212, Marshall JCM600, Engl Screamer & Avatar 2x12 (V30's), Vox VT30, Engl Blackmore & Engl 4x12 (v30's), bl 5150 & matching 4x12, and a Fender Mustang 1. To be fair I never played the Mustang. I bought it around the same time as the Tone Zone with the intention of getting the V going, and having a practice amp to jam on. Sold the Mustang on Craiglist without ever playing it.

I'm a picky metal head that enjoys many genres of music. Some of my favorite bands I don't enjoy all their work. For instance, Pink Floyd will forever be one of my favorites... but I really only enjoy Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, and Animals. Machine Head's the Blackening album made them one of my favorite bands, but there's plenty of their stuff I don't care for. ISIS is pretty solid, but I typically only listen to Oceanic and Panopticon. Really into Tesseract and Animals as Leaders lately... as well as some similar artists, but with djenty bands it's usually the singer that's a make it or break it for me. Coheed & Cambria... Pelican... Russian Circles... Gojira... Baroness... This is probably enough for now. :)

Oh.. and I've been playing guitar for about... a while. 17 years I guess. However, other than some the first first years, I've never put in a ton of effort in regards to practicing and furthering my skills. My skills probably peaked 7 years ago, and have declined dramatically since then because I haven't played much since then.

I also enjoy long walks on the beach.

Welcome! This place is friggin' great. I'm newish too, and they've been warm and welcoming. A lot of the crew is from the old HCAF gang, but luckily just the grade A, quality members. None of the riffraff.

Welcome man!

As a resident Yamaha THR10 fanboy, I suggest you give the THR10X a serious look for low volume home jamming. Soo happy with mine :D

I honestly don't remember. I don't think I posted a ton there before packing up and moving to RT. It was probably feintguitarist or fenrisx. I don't think we really talked, but I just recognized your username.
