It was the first Floyd album I heard so it was my introduction to them. I still like it now, it's brilliantly produced. I think the only area it falls down is that it doesn't have some deeper meaning/ theme/ inspiration like earlier Floyd work. When I listen to Animals, I can hear the venom in Waters' scathing attack on corporate greed and the music supports it, with Gilmour playing some fucking nasty, harsh tones that work with the message. Division Bell at times feels like the aim was just to make beautiful sounding beds of music together for Gilmour to solo over with his awesome tone, they even outsourced the lyric writing. Don't get me wrong, I've got lots of time for tasty solos and beautiful music, but it doesn't fulfil me quite as much as some of the Waters-lead stuff.

And yeah, Thrice are/were awesome! Tom Van Devan who recently joined up here (check the effects forum) did an awesome clip a few years ago of that riff with his modded Rat through an AC30H.

I saw them on Division Bell tour and it was amazing. I am a bit older, so I have listened to them for a long time. I enjoy Waters, but at the same time I think Gilmour has a much more soothing voice. Which works for some things, but the angry stuff obviously leans heavily towards Roger's direction.
