Divergent - 6/10

Wasn't terrible. Good looking movie, good looking cast. Dug the main character, hope to see more of her in other things. I can see why my 14 yr old daughter loved this. Not great, but far better than Twilight or others of it's ilk.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 - 7.5/10

Good story, very human. If you know anything about the comics you knew what was coming. Still sucked. Hated that part. Dude playing Harry Osborn was sufficiently creepy...he's creepier in this than the Chronicle movie, and it was a good thing. Kinda bummed there was no extra scene, but there's a pic of a deleted extra scene online that shows Norman Osborn's head in a box, so he might be back. Rumors of Venom abound too, and it's scary insane Eddie Brock Venom, not the lame one from last time.

Jamie Foxx was decent as Electro...wouldn't mind seeing him back. Special FX were entertaining enough. I dug it. Liked the first one better though.

Movies like this are why I don't totally discount every movie my wife picks from Netflix. I knew of it, but hadn't ever watched it before. Just a good movie from the era when movies could entertain without pandering and hand-holding you all the way through it. The backstory as to why he wanted to be a mountain man was a few seconds basically saying, "nobody knew where he came from and what he was leaving behind. . ." done. Now, if Hollywood saw fit to remake it (and they better not) that backstory would likely take up an hour and a half. In fact, they'd probably have to make the film a trilogy because there's no way they could get to the actual story in less than three hours.

If you haven't seen it, you should. Just a great film about a different type of life. Anybody that ever wanted to drop out would get the why, and possibly be surprised by the way the story shakes out. A damn good movie.

The human race - 3/10 shot weird, but very disconnected and scrambled together feeling. Would have been much more interested in the aliens at the end. Meh.

Wicked Little Things - maybe 5/10
It's not like I disliked watching it, but I think I'm burning out of the Afterdark Horrorfest movies. So many of them are cookie cutter hollywood fare. And these are the films that were, "too twisted, too gory, too frightening for hollywood to put out." Whatever. It's all the same shit I've seen a bazillion times parading around with indie street cred cause they were too special for a big studio to get behind them. Some of the others have been OK and at least attempted to give you a different perspective on the horror genre, even if it wasn't always the most original story. The Vampire family movies were sorta cool in a goofy, funny way. But this one is the most unoriginal, uninspired of them that I've sen. The only thing mildly original about it was the origin story for the little zombie brats, and even that's been tackled before.

The beginning of it felt like what would happen if someone that had a mild mental problem tried to tackle the Cabin In The Woods take on the formula without the control center douches. And replace Mordecai with a dude that appears half downsie and pretty much full-blown pedophile, and too stupid to really figure out how to word the warning. The middle was literally like somebody had a list of horror tropes and they were checking them off as they went one-by-one just to make sure they fit them all in. And the ending was the typical modern hollywood redemption horror ending, which is probably the biggest disappointment of the whole thing. Honestly, I'd have bumped it another couple points had the little zombie brats drug thier "family members" off to live in the mine with them forever at the end instead. At least it wouldn't have ended up with a shot of the little miner girl smiling at the camera in her ghoul makeup as if to say, "see fucker, you were dumb enough to watch the whole thing and all you get for it is the main zombie character smiling at you like she knows you're a bitch, because guess what? You're a bitch. You have been trolled. Suck it, loser."

So, yeah, I guess I wouldn't recommend it. It's not like it's a horrible movie, but I've seen it ten million times before, and most of those times it was done better. And if I'm gonna sit through repititious bullshit, I should at least get to see some titties or something for it. It's the one horror trope they DIDN'T tick off the list.

Disappoint.

Amy and I watched that Future Folk movie. It was incredibly weird but endearing. :idk:

Last night we watched Bad Words and despite that mixed reviews I thought it was great. But then again I like Jason Bateman. A lot.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 9/10

Fuck yeah, this is what a comic book movie should be. As much as I've enjoyed the current run of Marvel movies in the Avengers series, the goof factor of this one really put it over the top. So many funny lines and moments, and yet still able to do a "saving the universe" storyline justice. Brilliantly paced, lots of laughs in the theater, just good fun all the way around.

So, is everybody assuming Loki is daddy? I know they said it absolutely will not be who it is in the comics.

Seeing as how it did $7 million over the weekend (or opening night, I forget, either way...) I don't think anyone saw it.

I'll see it when it comes to Netflix but it certainly wasn't going to be must see cinema for me.

Saw this German crime drama on Netflix last night called The Silence, real tense, a little slow towards the middle but a solid film, and a little different. Definitely worth seeing.

The first Sin City was amazing, imo. Not sure how the second one will compare. Material is right up my alley but Frank Miller has been known to put out some crap as far as movies go. The Spirit being probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Blue Ruin 7.5/10
Homeless man finds out his parent's killer is being released from prison, re-enters the normal world to dole out some justice. Saw it for the first time on the video store wall and decided against renting it the other day. Went home; saw it on Netflix and fired it up.

Really to the point premise with some surprisingly good acting from an unknown cast as well as the guy who played Buzz on Home Alone  . Very gritty, yet strangely emotional flick with a great storyline. My only gripe would be wishing it to was a little more violent; yet the story itself plays out in a way that would make that not so simple to pull off. Reminded me of a less stylish version of Drive. In a positive way.

See now, I loved Drive. Gosling played the quiet badass and it had just enough of a retro-visual vibe that kept me entertained. It was a little sparse on the dialog but I thought the action was very jarring and kept things going at a good pace.

I did not. Though, it was better than the not-sequel but similar movie the same director did. The visuals in both were great, but I did not enjoy either movie in the slightest. Both felt like art school director trying way too hard.

But hey, different tastes make the world go round and give us things to call each other names about on the internet. ;)
