Definitely the most enjoyable movie I have seen in a while. I like Marvel movies just fine but this one just had a greater sense of fun than most. It is basically a goofier version of The Avengers.

This sounds awesome. I've been loving the previews and been hoping it actually delivered on the fun.

If you liked what you saw in the previews then you will LOVE the movie.
Oh yeah, Guardians 7.5/10. I liked it, pretty funny in places, and all the usual Marvel stuff. But so far, for me at least, Captain A. 2 has so far been the best of the Marvel phase two stuff by far. This would probably rate second.

I thought it was pretty funny, not as memorable as many other Seth Rogan films

Agreed. However, GotG is by far the most FUN.
Been on the fence about checking it out tonight, you guys are swaying me towards yes.

Sometimes, I wonder if your "fun" gene is broken.
In th theater now waiting for it to start. They have Pepsi products here instead of coke, so I'm already knocking my rating down a star.

That's what the little bottles of alcohol are for. A couple of them make anything palatable and it often helps with the movie too!

It seems to me that this movie was made for two reasons:
1st- set up backstory for Avengers 3 and advance the Marvel Studios cinematic backstory by fleshing out Thanos, bringing in the Infinity Gauntlet and so on.
2nd- for Disney to show anyone doubting their Star Wars potential what they can do with an action oriented sci-fi space movie (seriously, change the soundtrack, take out the references to earth and make Thanos, Ronan, Gamora and Nebula Sith and this would have been a pretty good Star Wars film IMO).
That said, the result is a damn good movie regardless of why it was made.
Great pacing, never suffered from dragging the way a TON of movies that introduce new characters (let alone a whole super hero team) often do. You get a great sense of each character and their history and motivation without having to drag through an hour of backstory like we do with every other Spiderman and Batman film. Was definitely a fun movie as others have said and one of the better ones from the Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far IMO.
As a huge DC comics fan it's bittersweet to see how great of a job Disney is doing with Marvel compared to the clumsy game of catch up WB is playing with the DC properties. I would love to see a movie like this in the DC universe with Darkseid and Big Barda and all those characters leading into a big Justice League battle, but I just don't think they will do it or that it would be well done if they did.
Misc thoughts: Whistle arrow is a damn cool weapon. After credits scene was a bit of a let down. Was expecting Avengers style plot hinting, not Pacific Rim style tomfoolery.
Oh, and someone tell me how you score the gig that pays millions of dollars to spend a half hour saying "I am Groot" with fifiteen or twenty different inflections. I want that job.

Pretty much exactly how I feel. Peter Quill, aka Star Lord certainly had a Han Solo-esque quality about him.
