For you Dio/Vivian Campbell fans. I personally love the outro riffing on "We Rock" by Viv. Enjoy! I'm really not sure how to post videos- hope this works.
holy crap that was awesome. viv looks great and sounds great again. I read a comment on that page he is using Engls, man that amp sounds absolutely killer. Hes one of the rockers that made it thru middle age well, he looks better now than he did in the late 80's. That dude on vox KILLED it.

Thanks for the Welcome. Definitely Viv's tone smokes. That ENGL just snarls and is so articulate-- probably more player than the amp though. My absolute favorite player-- needs to ditch Def Leppard and take this band beyond. Singer absolutely kills it too IMO and carries a huge stage presence. Viv looks like he is loving it too-- and BS to the old belief he doesn't like Metal. Doesn't appear that way to me.

Kind of a bitter thing though seeing how Campbell was known to be an asshole and basically shit all over Dio ever since he left the band. I don't think he ever stopped talking shit about him, and now that Ronnie is dead, Campbell is out there playing this material that he has basically derided for the last 20 years.
Yeah he shit talked Dio a ton but I believe Viv wrote these songs and is not playing anything he didn't write and record. In bad taste, maybe but I think he has the right to play material he wrote with Dio.
Too bad there didn;t seem to be a real resolution between those two because they had something magical about their writing chemistry IMHO.
Also, that Engl Blackmore is probably the BEST sounding amp in the Engl arsenal.

Does sound pretty damn good though.
The thing is, he wrote these songs. Actually, this band is 4/5 of the songwriting team on those records. They have as much right to play these songs as Ronnie did.

Dio hated him too though but I guess it was because he was an acehole. Who knows what really went down or who the real douche was.
But yeah, as others said Viv wrote the songs so why not...........

I think only since Ronnie died has Campbell talked more about it and in less hostile words. It basically came down to business stuff back in the day, a dispute about how to split up money in the band after the first few albums. Apparently the level of disagreement it reached ended in Campbell being fired. I'm not even saying Campbell was wrong for being pissed off or that he didn't get the short end of the stick, but for years he gave his side of the story as basically calling Ronnie a piece of shit, a "vile human being", and he used to even talk shit about the albums he played on himself! I remember an interview where he said outright that he didn't care about the music he was playing with Dio when he played it, and he cares even less now (although now was like...ten years ago or something). I've read some more recent interviews with Campbell and it seems like now that Ronnie is dead he feels like he can approach the music again. That is one serious grudge to bear, that someone has to die first. I know Ronnie said some things about Campbell too once the mudslinging started, but it always seemed to me to be a reaction to what Campbell was saying, not that Ronnie is necessarily innocent in the whole thing, but I think a whole lot of people were left with a very bad image of Vivian, and it was his own fault.
The Vivian side of the story is that Dio promised him and the other guys that they would be a band with everything split equally, the band would just be called "Dio" because Ronnie already had name recognition. So the guys agreed to work with minimum pay (less than the crew) for the first 2 albums just to fund the band and make the project financially viable. By the time the 3rd album came about, Ronnie changed his mind and decided that it was not a band but his solo career and the guys would be on a (apparently low) salary and there would be no equal split of profits ever. That is what prompted the fight and eventually led Vivian to be fired.

well that's an important lesson, no matter who is writing the songs and who is in control at any given time NEVER EVER agree to name your band after anyone IN the band if you deem yourself an equal in both recognition and finance.

Yeah that is what is out there now, although I don't recall until very recently Campbell expressing it in so many words. It was always a bunch of outright shit talking in interviews and stuff like that. But Campbell did make statements that are contrary to what he's saying now about the music itself. I'm paraphrasing, but anyone can look up the interviews where he slags all the Dio material (including his own) and "hard rock" in general, which pissed off a lot of people who were actually fans of his.

And while its a bit of he-said he-said on the part of Dio explicitly promising to split money equally, don't ever lightly agree to shit about money unless its going to be written in a contract.

yeah but when you're virtually unknown (as Viv was before Dio) and the guy proposing it is Dio, what are you going to do, say no? He would just move on with another guitar player...
That's Dio's side of the story: that no matter what happened money-wise, he gave Vivian a name and a career and he should be thankful. Which is also a good point.
So both sides of the story have a point, probably why they never solved their differences.
