Kind of a forgotten band, but definitely had their niche in the 90s. Sweet Oblivion is one of all-time favorite records. Barrett Martin is an insane drummer and Lanegan's vocals are so fuckin powerful. I've just been jammin the shit out of it lately
I have all of their albums and it's just amazing how they're overlooked. Their songs got better with every album and Lanegan's voice is our generation's Tom Waits.
Woohoo! Yeah bro. Totally agreed. Lanegan's got his shit down to a science; I agree on the Tom Waits thing. I think he also fancies himself a bit of a Leonard Cohen with a bit of Morrison thrown in. Gary Lee Connor plays nice vintage shit and writes amazing tunes. Have you heard their version of Tomorrow's Dream? You can practically hear the room shaking. One of the Better Sabbath covers out there.
Always liked Screaming Trees. One of my favorite bands in my college days. I wasn't particularly influenced by their music but I had Sweet Oblivion is constant rotation in my car back then..it was like my official background music for the early to mid 90's.

SG- Working Class Hero is really well done. Have you heard anything else from that tribute disc? I used to have it...trying to remember what was on there. Seems like a lot of it was forgettable. I do rememeber RHCP doing a pretty good cover, can't remember of what though.
And yeah, Billy- That's a solid disc. Perfect driving music.
I have tried to get into Screaming Tree's multiple times and it always leaves me a bit flat. I love his voice though. And I LOVE the QOTSA songs he sings on.

Have you heard any of his solo records?
The three I'd recommend are Whiskey for the Holy Ghost Field Songs Bubblegum

I'm a huge fan of Mark Lanegan and like some of the Screaming Trees stuff. Field Songs is prolly my favorite Lanegan album, but it's not one that I like visiting too often. Pretty damned dark.

Yeah it is. That record dropped when I was at an all-time low in my life too. Whenever I listen to it now, I can appreciate the ambience and it really takes me back. Fuckin music is powerful, eh?
Also bumping for this song/performance because it's just too killer. All the Lester love on this forum has reminded me of one of my favorite guitar players, Steven Janssens.
