New Brendon Small/Dethklok album out now.

Post by nightflameauto »

Unfortunately it's only available for download and I can't for the life of me figure out how to buy the damn thing and get it downloaded. Anybody else have any luck with it? I get as far as adding to cart, then it just doesn't go anywhere. It makes me  cause dammit I needz me more Dethklok.

I will check into it when I get home - is there going to be an Amazon/iTunes release?

I don't think so. He sent out a big email to people subscribed to his list talking about how this is on his personal label because he wants there to be a future home for Dethklok music once the cartoon is over. His Galaktikon release was only available via his online store, so I would guess this will be the same way.

The store isn't working for me. Is this related to last night's Metalocalypse rock opera, cause that was pretty great. Was cool to see Brendon Small doing some music outside of the typical Dethklok stuff, even if the rock opera wasn't based on Kafka's Metamorphosis.

It's the album version of last night's Metalocalypse Rock Opera (A Klok Opera). Plus a twenty-three minute orchestra only track. I don't have Cartoon Network anymore so I have to wait for the download version of the episode or the DVD release. The store works, but you have to head straight to the shop itself and skip over Brendon's main site for it to function. He's having a lot of web issues right now, apparently.

I'm only a few minutes in, but it seems like this is much more Galaktikon than Dethklok, but with a lot of other dudes adding voices. I know Mark Hammil is in, Corpsegrinder, and several other known names for voice actors lending voices to the opera. Really curious about the cartoon version as it's supposedly the last we'll see of Dethklok for a LONG TIME in visual form.

7 songs in and I'm all

It's good, but it's so NOT Dethklok and NOT Galaktikon. Just way the fuck out there. And yet I still dig it. :idk:

Having listened to most of it at this point, I'm really anxious to see the episode. I have a feeling a lot of it isn't making sense to me because I just don't know who is supposed to be singing at various points. Some of it's real clear, but some of it's somewhat iffy.

Yeah, having seen the show I really don't know how much sense a lot of it would make without the visuals for context.

One of the PDFs is essentially the script from the show. I'll have to read through that while listening when I have the time for it. There's some really cool tunes in there, but things are very  in my head right now.

FUCK YEAH! The episode is available on iTunes for $2.99. Worth it. Hopefully they'll still release a DVD, but if not I at least have a way to watch it.

There is a behind the scenes video included with the album purchase, so I'm thinking the chances of a DVD/CD joint release with the behind the scenes vid as an extra feature may be coming down the pipeline. Which would be excellent.

Watched the episode last night. Never thought I'd see a 43 minute death metal cartoon musical on TV

We tried to watch it last night but our AppleTV was acting up. Updated it and will probably try again tomorrow night.

I dig the music. The Doomstar Orchestra piece on the album is really wild. 23 minutes of just orchestra, but weaving some of the old Dethklok themes in and out of traditional orchestral arrangements. Very cool.

Finally watched the opera. HOLY. FUCK.

Who knew their manager could sing like that? And the Thriller tribute section was AMAZEBALLS. Rockso's appearance was brief enough to be just right. The guitar battle when they went Neo-Classical Shred, the outfits and wigs were perfect. Corpsegrinder's part was beautifully played.

At the end of the Thriller segment I go, "Brendan Small is a fucking genious."

My wife says, "that's not the first time you've said that."

"And it won't be the last."

She's been following the show with me since the beginning and about halfway through she said she wanted this on her iPod to listen to at work. That's when I know she loves something. If you're into the show at all, this really does take it to a whole new level. The music was good on its own. The show makes it just purely amazing.

I watched the included behind the scenes video last night. There were some good  z to be had in there, and some minor and extremely well-deserved strutting by Brendon. One of my favorite sections was everybody saying it's just nuts that Brendon figured out a way to have a two minute guitar solo on television that actually does something musically and still moves the story forward. I had noticed Toki sounded different on this than what he usually sounds, and they admitted they had Mike Keneally voice his singing. I'm guessing this bastard is gonna get full-play live if that's the case, otherwise they'd have just had the usual overdubs for Toki.

They also had about forty seconds of the original demos for the music they played. Even the demos are mind blowing. Brendon talking about finally getting to score out a fifty piece orchestra, with real instruments, was really cool too. I feel like I need to watch the whole thing again now.

It's a good balance of devastatingly funny and super, SUPER serious. Plus you finally get a hint of what the whole Metalocalypse thing is really about.

Ladys, I give you, Toki's Auditions:

Also, if you need to see it, it looks like there's a high quality version of the entire thing up on youtube at the moment. Not sure how long that'll last.
