We were practicing at this music store and they had the 1w DSL there so I decided to plug into my 4x12 and try it out out for a few songs.
The amp is surprisingly loud. I can't say it really hangs with the drummer but it doesn't get buried either. Kind of a low volume, but perfectly audible in the mix.
I think if I had a cab on a stand closer to ear level it would be fine.
The little amp sounds really good though. Better than the 20w version and surprisingly not much quieter than the 20w.
I think I'll buy one just for the hell of it when I find a good deal on it.
On a different note, I took my Hohner Strat to practice and played a set with it. I changed the pickups to a set of Fender Deluxe Drive, which sounds really good. I was surprised that I really like the way our songs sounded with single coils. It was a LOT cleaner than my usual tone. A strat through an unboosted 2203 is not very distorted at all. But it sounded huge and very clear. I boosted the solos only with a SD-1 and that gave me a screaming, cutting lead tone.
I think that for next practice I'll bring a Klone as a subtle, always on boost just to add a bit more gain to the rhythm tone. But I'm considering switching to the strat for some songs.
I'm also thinking I should go with some lower output humbuckers in my Gibsons to close a bit of the gap between them and the strat.
