DiMarzio SD vs Duncan JB.

In short, I have two fat strats with the DiMarzio's in them. One is a Fernandes, and the other a Fender, both rosewood boards and stainless frets. I'm going to assume the Fernandes is basswood, and the Fender alder. Both solid colors, so only the neck pocket shows wood. The highs sound a bit thin in comparison on the Fender. Do you think a JB would give it a fuller top end? I have a JB in my Edwards LP, but that's mahogany/maple. Cuts like a knife through a mix though.

If you like the Super Distortion tone and just want it to be fatter, the Super 3 is what you need.

The JB is a different beast altogether. Lots of mids and it can be shrill depending on the guitar. It's highly dependent of the guitar, maybe more so than any other pickup. I've seen guitars sound absolutely amazing with it and others sound like total crap.

But again, the Super 3 will do exactly what you want. Super Distortions were designed in '72 with LPs in mind, since the superstrat era was years away. When people starting to put them on super strats, they most of them sounded great with the regular SD, when dealing with the classic strat recipe (alder/ash) but guitars with basswood poplar etc sounded thin, so DiMarzio came out with the Super 3 specifically to address this complaint.

I agree on the Super 3 with the Tonezone as a close second. The JB has an upper mid spike that absolutely cuts in a mix but with basswood I always find it a bit grating on the ears after a while.

The Super 3 is awesome, and I doubt for your given application you would get what you are wanting. I am not certain how the Super 3 would be in basswood, but in alder it should be legit.

. Sorry, I think I worded it wrong. The alder Fender sounds thin in comparison to the basswood Fernandes.

If you have one in LP, maybe borrow it to try in the Fender before you buy one.

The other option is a JB with a 250K volume pot... That might do the trick.

My HM Strat is basswood and came stock with a Super 3.

Used to be a joke BITD that basswood had no bass.
